Anti Roll Bars?

  Clio 2, 1.2 16V
I've been reading about car modifications, and i can't figure out why ARBs are not fitted as standard. Everyone seems to love them and the improved cornering they provide, so why are they not standard? or even an optional extra? :S

So, you're telling me your car has non ARB?

Might want to check your facts there ;)

They have a front ARB as standard. None at the rear, but you can buy an aftermarket one. Most people get the Whiteline adjustable one.

They're fitted to the front across the range,
most manufacturers tend to make cars with a little understeer as it's easier to control for the general public.

When people fit the whiteline arb they find they get a slight increase in oversteer.

Yea, i was talking about the rear

Oh, so the rolling of the car makes the rear wheels grip the road and prevents someone from spinning in the rain?

The rear does have a anti roll bar as standard on a 1*2. They're welded into the rear beam across its length to reduce the amount of twist it has.
Not sure if you could fit one to a 1.2 though.

Most modern cars have some form of ARB front and rear, and I think probably 99.99% of sport ones do.

Could a bumpy road break an arb? or going over speed humps like these too fast?

If one wheel was in the centre and the other was on the road, as has happened many times when road side parking is permitted, would this damage the ARB?

Could you end up with a permenant deformation of an ARB which ends up with the car tilted to the left even when not cornering. Never even thought about this untill i started typing the previous sentence.

I don't tend to drive over speed bumps fast tbh.

Sometimes things just happen.

Do you need anything else to be added along with ARBs? no other suspension parts needed? i want to see how much i would need to budget for, perhaps a year or two from now

Doubt it just slow down anyway.

No.

This.

They do have an Arb on the rear. It's more of a torsion bar type. It's incorporated into the axle. When you look under your car next take a look inside the axle beam.

Once fitted on the car the finite amount of available suspension travel means you will never snap one no matter how hard you hit a speed bump. If you do rally stages regularly though you will eventually fatigue the bushes.

^ Whiteline is the manufacturer mate.

Have a search, there will be lots of threads on them.

I had one on my 172 and was happy with it. They are around £150/160 iirc
