Any insurance experts

I currently have around 10 years (11 if I was to complete this insurance year) of no claims discount. As I m currently looking to sell my own car and not replace it I was wondering how long I could keep my no claims (Ill get a letter from Elephant stating how much no claims entitlement I have as of the date I cancel the policy of course).

A possible solution that would enable me to keep my hard earned no claims would be to get insured on my g/fs Seat Arosa. This will sound like a daft question maybe but will we both be able to carry on racking up no claims for the same car, I mean I cant see why not but then insurance companies are funny about all sorts of things ?

Any help very much appreciated.

hi mate,

first off max NCD is 5 or years, depending on who u speak to.

Youre allowed a 2 yr gap between policies, anything longer than that and youll loose them.

cheers, paddy

  don't

think policy really needs 2 b in ur name 2 gain any more no claims

think ur no claims will stay valid for 2 years i think it is , might be more, and then they mean jack

not 2 sure though

what u could do is get reg of cheapest car 2 insure, a real old banger with like 600cc and insure that, keep gaining no claims and wouldnt cost u much with that many no claims anyway

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

^^

cant BOTH have policy on same car!

OK with gap for year or 2

always get a £100 moped and insure for next 2 nothing and dont use?

I transferred a year on a motorbike to a second car.

im no expert but i thought it was a year b4 u lost your NCB.

Again not sure but I think u could have 2 drivers racking up the NCB on 1 car but itd have to be with seperate policies.

Best speak to your ins co.

i work for more than, and if you have not been insured for over 6 months, then they wont accept your no claims discount.

So from the sounds of it I might ave to either buy something dirt cheap to keep my no claims going or else get insured on the g/fs car. Still need to find out if we can both build up no claims on the one car (hers).

"If you do not currently have a motor policy in your own name but have earned a No Claim Bonus under your last policy, this can usually be transferred to a new policy, providing you earned the bonus within the last 2 years. "
