Silly questions maybe, but why is it called a splitter? Its a wee thin bit of trim stuck under a bumper.

Is there a more technical use for it, less drag more fuel saving etc?

Has anyone colour coded theirs yet?

It is meant to split the air from the air that goes up and above the car and the air that goes under the car.. hence splitter

Although TBH the cup one does no such thing, and IMO is just there to look nice (which IMHO it doesnt) I would have the Cup spoiler over the 172 one though.
