Any SQL Server Experts

  cock mobile.
I would like some way of automatically creating a backup of data from our live DB, but only data in certain tables that I'd obviously specify, and only recent data again I would specify.

This data can then be restored to our local dev machines for use, it would overwrite any duplicates but other tables would remain consistent.

At the moment we have to do a complete backup and restore of the DB, which is now quite large.

Hopefully you can understand that!

Cheers guys.

How large is the back up?

Yes, it's clear to what you want.

Just a query, how long does it take to back up and what are you using?

Thanks,

G.

veritas is gay, it cannot back up the sql when it's mounted.

Special way of doing it, not sure what the exact sequence is though.

DB backup is over 5Gb un compressed.

Downloading it can be a right pain, even zipped it takes hours and then it takes a good 30 mins to RESTORE it.

Even a quick way of just backing up and loading certain tables would be handy, although I don't think this is so straight forward anymore, as LOAD table isn't supported anymore is it?!

It's 2000 btw.

Cheers for any ideas.

Veritas isn't an option for me anyhow.

I need some SQL that will do this really.

Creating a DTS Package would be fine I guess, just need to get it right :)

Let me know how you go about it, I will try to find out from my colleague how me would go about it, he normally does all this.

:)

Good luck :)

  Better than yours. C*nt.

So it sounds like you want an SQL database export, as opposed to a backup?

Yer pretty much, export the tables to a CSV and import them in is probably the easiest option here.

However importing large CSVs I've never found to be that easy, something always c***s up, unless someone has any decent tips or guides here that means I won't get it all bent out of shape!
