any tv/aerial peeps on here?

right basically my old tv (crappy sanyo thing) had a very good picture and no reception problems

i recently bought a samsung 32" flat screen jobbie with built in freeview

i plugged in the aerial (there is a feed throughout the house to the main aerial, this also means you can watch whatever sky channel is on downstairs in any room) and i got an absolutely crap reception

i unscrewed the box in my room and it revealed the aerial cable was attached to a circuit board (is this a booster?)

after fiddling endlessly with the cable and the connection i got an ok reception, although alot of freeview channels it doesnt pick up or has a poor signal

do i need to get someone in to fix this, or is there anything i can do myself?

btw every other room in the house has a perfect connection, although none of the tv's are as good as mine :approve:

Was your old TV freeview capable. Some ariels are not capable of properly receiving freeview.

if your distributing the signal to multiple places you really need to get a distribution amplifier (and make sure it will handle freeview frequencies.)

Sounds like you need either, a new aerial capable of receiving freeview, new cables from your aeriel to your tv (less likely) or a bloody good signal booster (waste of money IMO if your aerial isn't great)

A pro should get you a new aerial up and wired to your room for about a hundred quid i reckon !

Is it a new build house? Do you have a masthead amplifier?

A masthead amplifier is usually up in the loft. I'm guessing from what your saying though that your old tv didnt have freeview? If so thats why your having problems.

You can fix it yourself easlit..I could talk you through it, what you need and what to buy..I helped Xzibit on here a few months back with his problems (Im an ex aerial/sat fitter)

thanks for all the comments

yes the old tv didnt have freeview, was getting on a bit lol

as far as i understand it (this might be totally wrong) in the loft we have the aerial, and each room has its own cable running from it.

so if i was to replace the aerial i presume it would be beneficial for the rest of the house (even without freeview) or would it just be the same receprion for them as before?

also, the sky feed must run back into that aerial junction box in the loft from the skybox in the living room, so i assume by swopping the aerial i will still get the sky feed?

thanks again :D

yes it does im on it now :)

but only call them if you want them to fix it and sort it for you they get lots of people calling just for info then dont buy anything
