Anyone else had a company ring them up when selling their car?

Car  Astra CDTI SRI
My car is up for sale in the local "Free ad's" paper up here.

I got a phone call from a bloke saying that his company had buyers looking for a 182 in my price bracket blah blah..... I said no thanks and put the phone down.

I think I read something on CS about these types of companies.

Anyone fill me in on what they were on about?

They say they have "buyers" waiting but you have to register with them (and thus pay them). In reality they don't have nay buyers.

happens all the time, autotrader ads often say no agencies... know you know why ;-)

I got loads of emails when selling my 205gti from these prats

my mate advertised two cars with autotradre and all he got was these pricks ringing up - we have potential blah blah blah - f**k off is the usual response they get

same here, had at least 3 'car data' companies wanting to extract £80 from me, and several emails from 'overseas buyers', but would i hold £25M in my bank for them for a couple of days aswell.

Yep they still ring. One rang me today and i just lost it and said cant you fcukin read.He said he was'nt an agency but if i'd like to deposit 85 quid with him he has a string of buyers who will be waiting for his call.....
I said sell my car today and ill pay you 85 quid when its sold.
brrrrrrrrr........line dead....lol

To$$ers, unfortunately I fell for it with my last car :banghead:

We have got people interested in your car in your area, and you will definately have a phone call by the end of the day with some1 wanting to view the car. We will even put it on our website.

Not one phone call, and the car is still on their website 18months later.

I feel for it too!!!! :slap:

'Mr Clark, we have a buyers waiting with cash to buy a car just like yours, if you advertise your car with us, we guarantee a fast sell, our database blah blah blah!!!!!

Fleeced me for 70 quid!

Oh well, you live and learn!

i get these phone calls alot gets on your nerves after a while easy solution just dont answer,or answer it and tell them where the sun dosnt shine!

I can't believe people give these muppets money. Who exactly are these potential buyers they are going to put you in touch with? Who has ever gone to an agency when they want to buy a used car? Nobody. You just wouldn't - you'd read the fricking auto trader!!! So why would I pay 70 quid to an agency when I've already got my car advertised in the most widely read publication??
I got really annoyed with these toerags ringing about a focus I sold last year. Seeing as I clearly wrote "no canvassers" in the advert and I am registered with the telephone preference service they were making illegal unsolicited sales calls. Should have taken company names and shopped them!
Dave

I got them phoning me day and night and they were incredibly rude. When I rang to complain the manger was even ruder and said people like me don't deserve to sell their car!

lmao, I'd be tempted to put "canvassers will be met with abuse" in my add but it might put off buyers who think I'm a loon! :(

One of these companies was on the BBC's watchdog program a few months back.

No matter the value of my car, no-one ringing up and advertising such a proposal could rinse me of £50-£100.

I feel for anyone that's been stung though.

was just bout to say this company had been on watchdog, few people threatened to take the company to court to get there money back, and so when this company of the word court they sent them money back asap lol
