Anyone fitted the K&N Typhoon kit???

  BMW M135i
When I was looking into getting a Yaris T-Sport I did a bit of research into these and the general opinion was that they wern't too bad.
Looks like its only for ph1 though.

Oh, yes, that is right, it is for MK1 only. But i thought it is for MK2 as well because the way the pipe goes seems correct.

  Vectra :(
They look good in principal. Never seen any tests with them tho. I imagine you could get good gains tho similar to viper etc with the filter being mounted so low down. Depends how good the waterproof cover is tho and also if this is restrictive

  Vectra :(
Oh and K&N also say its to fit cable throttle models only for some reason so thats why it states ->04/01 only

  VW ....
there was a guy on here had one fitted by K&N free to see what the gains were .... posted rr graphs ... was some time ago

  Clio 172 mk2
Looks good

AEM systems on Civics and APS ones on Subarus are a very similar design and are rated highly.

Only thing I would be concerned about it the filter getting very dirty quickly and water ingestion into the intake system since it's so low down.

TBH with a small cone and some Samco hosing you could probably knock one of these up for a fraction of the cost.

  Ex Ph-Quick
The guy that got one free was me =DD

was on a mk1 172

Got a 9bhp gain through the mid range.

Awesome noise. Recommended

i'll post the graphs again when i get home

  Clio 172 mk2
Still going to get a very dirty filter quickly and it's going to be a pain in the a** to clean/replace.

  Vectra :(
IIRC they come with a special jacket like thing over the filter to protect it from the elements, all you would have to do to clean is pop open the vent under the fog, remove the sleeve/jacket thing, wash, dry and replace

i imagine anyway. i am looking into getting one

I'll secoind that! i had one on my civic and what a lovely noise they produce!!

The aluminium tubing comes in two sections so you have the option of having the filter in the engine bay, or you can add on the second section of pipe and have the filter down behind the front bumper, this was the case on the civic anyway.

Im really dissappointed that they dont have one for the 182 as if they did that'd be my first buy definetely!! Why wont the one they have for the 172 cable throttle version not fit the 182? Sorry but im fairly new to Clio's!

  Vectra :(
It might fit the 182 mate. I was only quoting K&N saying cable throttle only, they may have said this as using it the 172mk2 and 182 would mean removing the acoustic valve and that isnt something K&N could recommend for some reason. It this is the reason then fit one as the acoustic valve doesn;t need to be there really

Cheers

hey guys i have a 2005 1.2 16v dynamique is it tru that they changed the air intake system...so the 2004> onwards all use different k'ns etc.... can anyone let me know wot air filters they have for my car?

Found this information on the Typhoon kit for the 2001 172.

Had a look at the installation sheet, and to be honest, cant see why it wont fit the 182 but maybe im just a bit naive!!

Can someone have a look at the link and click the installation instructions (with pictures! ) and help me out to wether it would fit or give me some guidance? Dont wanna spend all that money on gettin one then find out it wont fit!

Thanks:)

Cool Gaz thanks.

Will have to keep this thread updated with their reply! :D

Thanks again,

Just got a reply off K&N...

Dear Gaz,

K&N intake systems are application-specific. Each intake kit is designed to fit a specific vehicle with a certain engine, within a specific range of model years. Intake kits do not cross over to other model year vehicles, to vehicles with similar body styles (Ford Explorer vs. Mercury Mountaineer), or to vehicles not specifically listed by year, make, model, and engine size in our application guide. If a kit is not listed specifically for your vehicle, it must be assumed that K&N does not offer a kit for that vehicle.

All K&N intake kit designs are submitted to the California Air Resources Board to apply for CARB exemption. Kits must be resubmitted to the board for each new application (vehicle model and model year) they are listed for. If exemption is granted, K&N will receive notice from CARB on average 9-12 months after the initial submission. Customers who register their product warranty cards will receive the CARB exemption decal for their kit automatically, as soon as they are available for K&N to send out.

We recommend using our online application search to check which products are offered for your vehicle. To search, please visit http://www.knfilters.com/search/appsearch.aspx and enter the year, make, model, and engine size of your vehicle. All products offered by K&N to fit this vehicle will be shown. If a specific type of part is not listed, it is not offered for this vehicle.

Thanks for writing,

Thats a very unhelp e-mail all in all. I have had replies from them in the past and always been from one of the sales team and was really helpful.

I still reckon it will fit fine tho if you take out the acoustic valve. Maybe this is why they dont say it fits because they cant be seen to be telling you to remove the valve. Did the cable throttle sports have the acoustic valve, dont think they did.

anyone got the price for this for the 172?

im sure with a few little mods you get it to fit the mk2 172,
its only a filter system.

I agree, its only a filter im sure it will fit ... would have been nice for K&n to confirm this though. I had a look around on net a bit ago and sure I found 1 for £180 ... i will have another look around to see what I can find.

Just get a K&N cone and some Samco hosing and make one up.

Can't be that hard

Cant be that hard to do i agree, however you will need the K&N cover (or alternative) to cover the filter to stop water and general sh*t going in the filter as it will be located in the wheel arch.

I'd locate the filter cone quite high up in the arch in place of the acoustic valve.....should be out of the way of water up there.
