Anyone fitted tweeters in the doors

  RenaultSport Clio 172 Mk2

Got some component tweeters (Infinity) and want to stick them at the top of the door cards, and hide the crossovers behind the door cards also.

Anyone done this before? Any dos or donts?

Not sure on the model of the components but they will have a guideline as to how close the tweeter should be to the mid range.

are they running off an amp OR the H/U?

do mount them within 2-3" of the mid driver
do aim them so that they are pointing at a point about 6 inches behind the drivers head
dont let the crossovers rattle around in the door, secure them WELL
dont fit them with the standard tweeters stil connected

Do not mount the X-overs toward the door skin, a lot of water ingress occurs in the doors and you want the x-overs toward the interior as the water runs down the skin and out the bottom and they will get wet.

I mounted my tweeters on the small plastic trim inside the door mirrors to save cutting the door cards.

Thanks guys. I actually wanted to put them at the top front corner of the doorcard. They have the Infinity I-Mount system so was planning to just drill one small hole in each to fit them, nothing too drastic.

Bryan - Is disconnecting the original tweeters a must?, only I dont hear much out of them as it is. I have to put my ear right up to them to hear anything. Its possible the lad who had it before me may have done something with them.

Theyll be amped up too btw.

its always best to disconnect them, as trhe extra treble will become overpowering, making the sound awful

even if there is something wrong with them, you would still benefit from disconnecting them

fit them near to the mids, otherwise the treble will stand out above the mid, which is never a good idea for a warm sound

If theyre amped its you have two options I believe. I mounted my new tweeters in the OE mounts on the dash it just seemed the natural thing to do. Sounded fine too.

Anyway, if they are amped you need to do one of two things. Either run the speaker wire up to the door frame and drill a new hole and run new cable between the door frame and door, or run the speaker cable up to the OE loom and cut and shut in thus foregoing the need to f**k about with all the wires in the exisitng plug between the door and door frame which can be hard to decipher and cut and shut in.
