Anyone good with mobile phone HW?

  The Bus and MRT
My mate at work managed to throw his Nokia N70 through his Galileo thermometer, thought it was water to begin with then realised it was parrafin and it melted the rubber under the buttons. The phone was still working but the main navigation button was sticking so he sent it in for repair... 3 sent it back saying it was water damage and they wouldn't even attempt a fix, mate managed to fix the button himself (sort of or enough not to bother forking out for a new phone) but now the phone just hangs on the nokia logo when powering it on. Could 3 have somehow disabled the phone, is there a switch inside that disables the phone when they deem it unrepairable?

Cheers

Ah sorry just seen this.

Dont see how they would have disabled it?

Did they send it back in that state? ie, not working. Or was it working then stopped after a bit.

It maybe that they have had a play with it when they got it and started to mess around with it. I had a phone returned in loads of little bits.... but when i sent it to them it was working mostly!

I made them cough up for a new phone.

Try ringing them, telling them that when you sent it in it was working just being a bit annoying with a sticky button. But they sent it back totally non working! they may cough up with a new phone.

IF its just water damaged, there are a few places that repair them cheap. Theres a company in London (try googling) who do a mail repair service.

Nice one cheers Has, it was working when he sent it back then wouldn't get past the nokia logo when they returned it.... I'll pass the info on, he went out and spent £200 on a new phone last night but might be worth him getting the old one repaired like you said and then ebay it
