Anyone had a go with a VXR Corsa yet ?

Car  197 Cup (JAWS)
Been watching a few vids and they seem to be rapid.

Not sure about the 197 but 172/182 should give a good contest
 
Driven one around Oulton Park. Didn't feel any faster/slower than the clio.

Love the way your blinkered into thinking the 197 is slower than a 172/182.... Brilliant! Worrying thing is you own one. What car did you come from, because point to point if you take the brakes and handling and grip, it feels as fast as my old 172 cup!

Well atm I dont, because its due in June. Still playing with my 182 FF, but not sure if I would be shamed in trying it on with a VXR......as they seem rapid.
 
There's one on my way to work every morning, the lad has a matching jacket and everything. He won't play though, so I can't give you an answer...
 
My mate has a bog standard one, to be honest its not that fast. Im yet to race him tho.
 
Think they're a bit too heavy. Don't care if it's got a turbo, it's still just a 1.6...

My engine's bigger :rasp:
 
220bhp is the 888 remap - or for £500 on your standard one Regal will give you 230bhp and 240lbs/ft.... Weighs about the same as a 197, 1220kg iirc. That'd see off most stuff to be fair in a straight line, would give a the Vee a run as well I bet once rolling.

I've just stopped working for a vauxhall dealership, drove them all the time, didnt think they were amazingly quick. easy to get remapped, it i a serious little car.

aparently, and i stress aparently, i havent researched it, but the corsa vxr set the lap record for the nurburgring for its class and the class above

Doubt it mate. I know a lad who took his VXcRap to a "reputable vauxhall tuning specialist" for a remap, which resulted in the engine blowing up. I hate vauxhalls.
 
There claimed to do the 0-60 dance in 6.8, is that not the same as a 182?

Turbo lag is supposedly Vauxhalls worst nightmare on most models

i have one and im very happy with it. not going to say much about it as it everytime i mention it its starts a debate and im getting bored and tired of them.

its got great mid range power/ (quicker 30-70mph than a golf r32).

is slighly lighter (about 40kg) than i 197. its unlike other vxr's tourqe steer is very slight.

i did a review about a few weeks ago. ill try and find it in a min. i plan to get a remap in a little while.

race wise on a road it would be down to the driver. i feel i can mantain my speed better in the corsa than i did in the 172. but thas just how it feels to me and my not be any dif.

acording to autocar it is about 2 seconds faster to 100 than a 197. i think this is why it holds the Nring lap record in its class is its a long quick track

but like all cars with same ish figs as the 182/197/corsavxr who "wins" is down to the drivers ability.

No not at all, I think at the end of the day a lot of it is down to the driver and whether he was pushing it or not I dont know. He was only young and driving a brand new car (probably had no balls lol) ;)

i have had a play with one on a short straight (about 1/3 of a mile) both rolling (about 20-30mph) he was behind me and i had probably stretched an extra 2 car lengths by the end of the straight, not too bad considering he would have had a slight slipstreaming effect too.
 
Where do people get 0-60 in 6.8secs for 182? Is this actually 0-62mph or Renault's claim? I've never seen this figure anywhere, maybe someone could give me the source of this.

Evo have tested a FF182 and a Trophy at 6.6. They've also tested a 172cup at 6.5. Autocar have tested a 182cup at 6.3!

Also, why do people always post: It depends on the driver? Yes we know it depends on the driver - JESUS CHRIST - we're talking about what a car is capable of at it's absolute limit, not driver skill.

Machine Vs Machine a Clio WILL pip a Corsa VXR to 60mph.

Also, according to tests, the Corsa will hits 100mph quicker than any Clio so it's fair to assume that once rolling and at high speeds, the Corsa would be slightly quicker.

Round a track, I've no idea as I've never driven the Vauxhall.
 
agree with all of heliosphans post.

re 0-60 times "whatcar" mag state 7.5 for the 197! if i was renualt id complain. to the public it looks on paper to be slower than all its comp. its such a popular mag i bet that would effect sales
 
My mate has a Corsa VXR there is nothing in it up the strip against my 182, midrange wise it pastes me on the motorway!

Also its better built, drives extremely well and standard wise makes the power quoted....my other mates one has now racked up 25k and has loosened up greatly tis fairly quick.

I've driven a few VXR Corsas now and really do like them, people need to stop wearing their RS rose tinted glasses and smell the coffee it a very capable and worthy contender of a 197/182/172 end of.

Also Heliosphan can you really consider Autocars figures for the 172 or any car worthy of noting they are renound for their generous figures!

The simple remap route makes them seriously quuick contenders IMO
 
At the end of the day, you can talk figures all you like... but unless you know how to drive it properly, to its capabilities... then it wont really make much difference!!

We all know this! Re-read my post.

I think when people post topics about which is the quicker car, they want facts - they want to know which car is (in theory) the quickest.

I know for a fact that I'm a crap driver, but I know that in the right hands my car is more capable and quicker than certain others.
