Are all digital coaxial cables S/PDIF?

  Mk2 Golf GTI
as above.

I need a s/pdif cable for my turntables so i went looking around currys/comet. They had plenty of digital coaxial cables by monster etc but none of them mentioned anything about S/PDIF.

If they're not, anybody know of any pretty decent cables around £20?

you can definitely get coaxial S/PDIFs but i'm just not sure if all digital coax's are

ant

  yep.
they are basically uprated phono connectors.

phono cables will carry a digital signal just not very well.

s/pdif is just the term for the connection.

so do you have a digital input on your mixer?

I've got a digital input on my soundcard. I'm going to be archiving my vinyl and want to do it with the best possible quality.

I went to Maplins earlier and saw those in store but wasn't sure if they were the right ones.

So basically i can use any digital audio coax, nice one

yeah i thought the s/pdif is how the info is sent rather than what cable it uses

so you should be ok with any digital coax

  yep.
sony/philips digital interface

can be an optical connection too but i'm guessing not on a soundcard.

I've got optical on my soundcard too but i haven't used it in a year and probably never will!

Got a digital coax from a pro audio shop, £8 and it does the job a treat. Thanks all

yeah i think i worded it wrong.

i meant probably not on a cheapo PC souncard. Better ones come with all manner of audio i/o :) i guess you've upgraded ;)

glad its sorted!

I have on mine ;)

SoundBlaster X-Fi Fatal1ty out to a Cambridge SoundWorks DTT3500 Dolby Digital Decoder using a optic fibre cable. Also used the same on my nVidia SoundStorm audio before that. Not that common but some of us do use it....
