arrgghhh ! my pc died last night !!!

My bro was using the pc last night, on msn etc when he got a blue screen (i wasn't at home so never saw any of this) then it came up something about windows (its running xp) it had a bar thing & it went up to 100% then it did it again & then shut down :S

When you turn it on it come up with the xp loading thing (blue background) then you get the desktop back ground & it says something about 'activating this copy of windows' - do you want to activate it, yes or no - when saying yes nothing happens,
i tried the xp start up disc but it doesn't do anything :S

I guess all the stuff on there is lost ?
the pc is about 3 years old now, its from Evesham Vale.

Is it fooked ???

Don't know what the problem is . But you haven't necessarily lost everything .

Sounds like more of a problem with windows itself rather than the hard drive . If you have a second ( master ) hard drive or a friend has one you can make the hard drive that is causing the problem the slave drive and see if you can access all the stuff on the drive then save it to disk(s).

MSN - lol - the Gateway for All and Sundry to screw up your PC. Who needs viruses when we have good 'ol Microsoft products?

WHat happens when say 'No' to the activation? Does it just shutdown?

D.

When you say no to it, nothing happens at all (same as if you say yes)

I didn't get as far as to start it in safe mode. I guess if I re-boot the hard drive all will be lost ?

I left my dad to ring them up this morning, but he knows even less than I do !
Its pap being in work as I can't do anything at all, my bro (he did I.T. lol) will have a look later on.

I only have one HD & don't know any one with a spare one.

What can I do ???

Yeah mate, i'm in Romford.
I will have a look tonight (I won't delete anything/make it worse) then i'll know whats going on.
