Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag

  Evo 5 RS
After the dwindling semi success of Assassins Creed 3, this look like it might be worth a punt. Who doesn't love pirates?

The naval missions were some of the best sections in AC3. Not to mention some improved next gen visuals for the PS4 and PC version (No extra Xbox One features)

The game will feature three main cities; Havana, Kingston, and Nassau, which reside under Spanish, British and pirate influence, respectively.[SUP][2][/SUP] The game will also feature 50 locations to explore, with a 60/40 balance between land and naval exploration.[SUP][3][/SUP]Assassin's Creed IV will have a more open world feel, with missions similar to those found in Assassin's Creed, as well as fewer restrictions for the player. The world opens up sooner in the game, as opposed to Assassin's Creed III, which had very scripted missions and did not give players freedom to explore until the game was well into its first act.[SUP][2][/SUP][SUP][11][/SUP][SUP][12][/SUP][SUP][13][/SUP] The player will encounter jungles, forts, ruins and small villages and the world is being built to allow players much more freedom, such as allowing players to engage, board, and capture passing ships and swimming to nearby beaches in a seamless fashion.[SUP][3][/SUP][SUP][10][/SUP] In addition, the hunting system has been retained fromAssassin's Creed III, allowing the player to hunt on land, and harpoon in the water.[SUP][3][/SUP]A new aspect in the game is the ship the player will captain, Jackdaw. The Jackdaw will be upgradeable throughout the game, as well as having easy access to the ship when needed.[SUP][11][/SUP]In addition, a new underwater component is being added.[SUP][2][/SUP] The player will also have access to a spyglass, allowing the examination of distant ships, along with their cargo and strength. It can also help determine if an island still has animals to hunt, treasures to find or high points to reach for synchronization.[SUP][2][/SUP] An updated form of the recruit system introduced in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will also return,[SUP][2][/SUP] allowing Edward to recruit crew members. While, Kenway's crew will remain loyal to him, and can be promoted to captain acquired ships, they cannot assist you in combat or perform long-range assassinations, as in previous games. Ubisoft removed this aspect of the brotherhood system, believing it allowed players to bypass tense and challenging scenarios too easily.[SUP][14][/SUP]
In the present day, at the Abstergo Entertainment — a subsidiary of Abstergo Industries — offices in Montreal, Quebec, players will engage in modern day pirating through the exploring of Abstergo's offices, eavesdropping and hacking, all without combat. As well, various "hacking" games, similar to previous cluster and glyph puzzles, will be present, that will uncover secrets about Abstergo.[SUP][15][/SUP]
Multiplayer has been confirmed to return, with new settings and game modes, though it will only be land-based.[SUP][2][/SUP]

I don't understand the next gen visual comment about XBO missing out. Missing out on what exactly?

Anyone playing this?
Picked it up this morning, not amazing but I wasn't expecting much after AC3. Will give it a proper run through this week though. Game have promised a £40 trade in value for it though which is OK.
Can't help think that I should have gone for BF4 instead but wanted to keep that for next gen.

I'll be picking it up later in the month when the PC version is available. Let me know how you find it :)

Just wanted to bump this now that the PC version is out.

Wow this is an amazing game! Very well done and the shift to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" genre has really helped put some lift back into the series. When your docked in a port its essentially any other Assassins Creed game in regards to the missions/free running and so on. But once your out on the ocean its like nothing else and theres a real sense of exploration when you drop anchor next to an island and go hunting for animals to upgrade your equipment (think FarCry).

Im very impressed so far, it looks very pretty too which is a bonus. It's made me realise there needs to be more pirate games! :D

Question is, PC or Xbox One. I can't help but think it will look better on PC but I'm more likely to pick it up and play it on the Xbox.

I'm fairly impressed with it although I won't be getting it on next gen to play through again.

I like the whole FarCry element to it. Also the sailing through the vast ocean is pretty good.

I've also got an add on for the ps3 which plays as James I think.

Only thing in not keen on it the bit when you are playing in modern time, out of the Animus.

Far Cry element?

Holding out til I get my Xbone - worth it?

Should be very pretty next gen.. I nearly waited until ps4 but I was bored of GTA.

FarCry element is the hunting and crafting of things, ammo pouch, armour etc.

It's for the 'Special Edition' which comes with Captain Kenway's Legacy, Sacrificed Secrets (whatever that is)

This game is apparently leaps better than 3. I've got it ready to play but have yet to get around to it. Think it's getting over shadowed by next gen launch. It is on PS4/XB1 though.

It is Scone. This is the first time I've enjoyed an Assassins Creed since #2 i think. I tried the one set in Venice (Brotherhood?) but lost interest midway through that.

I didn't try any of the 'expansion' style games they released after AC2 (which was an excellent game). AC3 was fantastic for the first, 60-70%. But it seemed to me like they'd attempted to make this expansive awesome world and just either lost interest or ran out of funds lol.

Some of the activities in AC3 were so tedious too. Chasing pigs, I mean seriously?

Really enjoyed it mate. I've played all apart from III which was rumoured to be pants. Really got my monies worth as it took ages to complete.

was awesome!
quite a lot to do it you want 100% completion, but not all of it is necessary for story / game play.

Its completely different to the new AC apparently. Very different to ACs of before.

I liked it basically because of driving a f**k off pirate ship with cannons! Also boarding other craft etc. Quite a good story. Good fun and quite cheap now. Can get a teensy bit reptitive towards the latter stages.

Think GTA in the carribean with pirates.

Cheers people, I think I'll get it ordered think you can get it for just under £30 now. I need single player that will take a while to complete I think it suits my style. Shame I never got into it before, time to rectify it now.

Say if you pass on a challange or something and you get to do something else and you get down further in the game can you get do do that side mission that I missed early in the game?

There are hundreds of side missions. I skipped a few that I went back to.

Its all based on different islands. So you can always go back to the island whenever you fancy to complete the bits you missed / couldnt be bothered with.

does the game sort of carry on off the last one or what? Thinking should i buy the latest Unity or buy the Black Flag and get in the swing of things?

They're completely different. Similar character but essentially they plonk A another assassin into a different time period / location. Rinse. Repeat.

This story will have nothing to do with Unity. Hard to link French Revolution to Carribean piracy haha.

edit: there is some story interlock with the very tiny missions you do outside of the animus but nothing worth writing home about.

Picked this up from cdkeys.com for £7.50 yesterday and is downloading right now, will have a quick play later, was worth a shot at that price!

It's definitely worth it. I paid £10 at Xmas for it and it really good. I haven't played it for a while as I've been sidetracked by The Last of Us and Fifa.
