Got the adjustable set up fitted, adjusts bound/rebound together, 12 clicks. Just after some info. What will be the effect on handling if I stiffen the front relative to the rear and vice versa?

  Clio 172 Cup
For setting up the balance:

Stiffer will remove grip from that end, softer adds it.

So if you want to tune out some of the understeer renault design into the car, soften up the fronts or stiffen the rears.

As for overall values, thats mainly down to the ride quality your happy with. However be aware that going too stiff can start to remove grip on the rubish UK roads, cos the wheels won't be able to keep consistent contact with the road surface.

Id have them on 3 front 2 rear. Perfect on road especially when ur running the same spring rates as me. :) but yes in short, stiffen rear to reduce understeer. dont forget that the rear is already alot stiffer than the front anyway as has alot less weight over it etc etc. try those 2 settings. if u are goin to adjust from that then go up one click at a time on both front and rear. EG:- 4 front, 3 rear etc etc.

Yes, your right...But it's not as simple as that. The principals are right, but you have to take into account braking, weight transfer, spring rates...We leave that up to the pro's! ha!

On the Vee i've got 16clicks. i'm on 6 and 12...

The ast's are uber stiff in the high setting ali, undriveable on 6 for the road, bit soft on zero. Settled on 1 front, 2 back. Looking forward to bedford, 12 clicks all round and r888's!

Went for my 1st proper hoon tonight, interesting. Me and Riz have a route that we regularly drive, both know it fairly well. Our cars have always been fairly even pace wise (his 182 vs my 172, his vee vs my Trophy). Neither of us has ever been able to pull a decent gap on the other. Tonight, on the first half of our route, I pulled away from him, more than ever before. 4 clicks front and back, goodyear f1's all round. Def made the right choice, would still love a go in a KW'd car though.
Ali, WTF my funeral!!

Tried that mate, but with the setup as it is, with both even is a bit too neutral for me. I'm thinking of getting the front/rear toe altered to improve the turn in.

they havent turned up yet which was pants, but curt said hed give me a call when they get there and hell fit and align them again. i was expecting a slightly crashy ride but there just so smooth, almost factory ride quality but with all the benefits of having a track setup. cant wait to give it some track work, got noting sorted till end of september.

Has anyone gone from H&R coilovers to these??

if so how do they compare?

mine has h&r and they are LIGHTYEARS apart on the road.

If i had the money i would make the switch!!!

(why oh why did i ask my mrs to marry me? lol, jokes)

Thats not as bad as i first thought.

That would make AST's around £1200 for fitting and setting up?

I think thats around what Curtis said to me the other day, u want the top mounts too (when they have them) extra £150-200 ish.

Powerstation not too far from u either.

replace the standard (s**t) Renault ones with a proper sold mounting point. stops the susspension slopping about. also cures all the knocks u get from them. mine are shot to bits

ben_p was doing some from compbrake a while ago.

apparently the ast ones are a better design with a big bearing

As stated on PowerStation.

'
AST solid topmounts are standard on Raceline dampers and Rallyline where regulations allow. However, they can be added to Sportline dampers to give a better steering response and increased driver feedback, whilst maintaining the vehicle geometry and improving the damper performance.
In vehicles using a McPherson strut setup, the topmounts are adjustable for camber to allow for quick changes in the set-up.
All topmounts are made of high grade aviation aluminium and use top quality spherical bearings for zero movement. All are anodised for protection from the weather, making them maintenance free.'

Didnt i hear somewhere that someone might be doing a groupbuy on these?

Yes im currently talking to curtis about doing a group buy when ive had the top mounts done this week. He is goin to work out a complete package including the top mounts hopefully. Just wants me to test the top mounts first to see how much better they are with them. He knows it will make a huge difference but i still want to try them first :)
Ill put up a thread bout it as soon as he comes up with some figures :)
