At what price does a car become worth insuring fully comp??

Blown up 182 & Mondeo TDI
Depends what your paying for fully comp. I would always do it for a car worth more than 4-5k

Most insurance companies insist on fully comp at prices above £5000. I take it the variance between fully comp and third party is massive then? Since i had some trouble claiming a couple of years ago when i was third party, i now only go fully comp. The difference in my circumstances is only £150 so it is well worth it. But if you wanted a pure figure i would say £1500 in my present situation.

It is entirely dependant upon:

Age of driver
Insurance Company
Insurance Price before claim
No Claims
Difference between TPFT and fully comp (in terms of price)

and many other variables. It would be impossible to generalise.

imo about 2.5k+, though it really does depend on what the difference between tpft and fully comp is. At the moment mines is only tpft but I will probably go fully comp when renewal time comes round.

Just fail to see the point of you paying insurance to fix someone elses car in the event of an incident and not fix your own.... Each to thier own like.

The problem is though, you can have a car with £2500 for example, you insure it fully comp at great expense, crash it, claim from your insurance and your premium sky rockets the following year.

If you insure it TPFT, not only do you save on the huge excess if you crash it (unless of course you hit someone else, but most crashes in the first few years of driving don't involve any other vehicle). You save money on the premium and the following year the insurance company knows nothing about your bump so the premium halfs rather than doubles. On a car worth £2.5k I reckon it works out cheaper in the first few years of driving to go TPFT.

Most quotes I got on my daily drive 306 where only about 10-20 quid more a year for fully comp so I just paid the extra. As others have said anything worth more the amount of spare cash that I would have in the bank to replace it I would insure f/c.

  Golf R soon...
I think elephant say if the vehicle is worth more than £5000 then it has to be insured fully comp.

Anything under that is up to you apparantely.

If it's worth over a grand, I'd insure it fully comp as I couldn't afford to replace it.

My current car is only TPFT as it's worth about the same as the change in my back pocket, and even though I'm skint, I could get something to replace it. However when I first started driving, I had a car worth 2.5K, so couldn't have afforded to replace it, so went fully comp.
