Attention Engine Detailers!!

My car has been running rough recently for quite a while (missing on cylinder 4) Anyway this was down the a HT lead arching which i resolved with a bit of tape. But yesturday started missfiring badly. So thought id pop down the K-tech and grab some leads so i did...

Anyway i got home to swap them over and i though ah what the hell while I'm here ill give the plugs an inspection/wire brushing. I take one out and find its rusted (badly!)

Two other plugs were also badly rusted which I'd put down to the missfiring not the leads.

So just a warning to people if you clean your engine your gunna have to remove the plenum and dry up the wells.
After wire brushing the plugs and fitting the leads engine runs beautifully

Just be wary when using water or a pressure washer in the bay!

Twas about a week ago when I did the engine bay obviously will take a few days for the rust to form

I'v learnt my lesson and wont be cleaning my engine anymore!!

Seems to be a big no no Clios a few people have had problems. Was it down to you or a previous owner ?

Crap is constantly spraying up from the roads into your engine bay, hence why you fine the underside of your bonnett is covered in rubbish, i doubt a pressure wash would do that much damage in my opinion. Ive pressure washed mine and im planning on giving it a full service with plugs soon so i will let you know the condition of mine. :)

It is fine to do, but remeber that water will seep into the plug holes and corrode the plugs. Dry them off after in my opinion to prevent that from happening

A few people on here have got issues with getting water in places they should not. It is always ideal to use as little water as possible, even down to using a damp cloth if possible. I would not even think about pressure washing the engine in most French cars tbh !

Yep, i've had this on my 172 cup. I took off the bonnet seal, as it kept falling off whenever i opened the bonnet. Mine started missing after a week of bad weather. We also found moisture in the plug holes. I can only assume it worked its way from the front of the car in driving rain (whilst driving) into the plug holes. I replaced the seal, and it never did it again?

car land are legendary for this my old clio sport started playing with the engine management kicking in a limped back where they explained they had power washed the engine and soaked the spark plugs

My only concern was water getting past the plugs and into the block, that would be a disaster. If you pressure wash the engine bay, dry and then spray wd40 then it will be fine, i cant see any problems if you do it properly.
