ATTN V6 Owners that HAVE had the recall

I had my first service today and the recall has been applied ... to cut a long story short when i returned to collect my car i found that it had done 10 miles and an average of 12.5 mpg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!( i reset the trip cos i dont trust anyone and with good reason!!)

The managing director told me that the recall upgrade needed at least 7 miles to test...( fair enough i suppose) and the reason for the 12.5 mpg was that the management system needed time to settle down ... ( i think this is total sh*t and he is covering for someone).i was wandering if any of you guys with the same fix had encountered odd mpg immediately after the upgrade

i am very angry and pissed off and want to get my facts straight before i completly bollock renault. Cos i do not appreciate some young coont hooning around in MY car using MY fukkin fuel!!.. to top this off the exhaust was banging like buggery when i got in the car .. needless to say it was sorted immediately

As a further point .. i reset the trip and within 1 mile the mpg was reading as it should circa 25 mpg(unsurprisingly).

Your comments will be appreciated as i am seriously going to get some fukker fired over this

it happens, its not nice, but it happens, all the bodyshops ive worked at if theres a fast car in, someone will no doubt take it for a go. ide hate it to happen to my car, but... well.. it happens!

funny enough when my car went in to have warrenty work done last week it came back with a mpg of 12.5, ive not had the recall notice. I didnt complain as it had gone in with transmission trouble so they had to roadtest it.

Yeah but 12.5mpg over 10miles is some serious f**king driving really. In all seriousness, not knowing the location of the dealer but to achieve that it hasnt been sitting in traffic, its been thrashed.

ask for the details of the recall, then check with renault customer service, ask for invoices etc

They did mine last december while it was in having a new clutch and flywheel fitted, they had it for nine days and i was so pi**ed off by the time I got it back I forgot to check the mpg and miles done.....

I doubt your worries are entirely justified. At my dealer theres only one person insured to drive the Vee - the RTE. I should explain that I know this guy and hes about 100 years old and wouldnt dream of thrashing a customers car. He did a few miles in it before it was delivered, and sure enough when I picked it up the mpg was something like 14mpg. The reason for this is that most of the time its sitting in a workshop or a forecourt ticking over. The car does 0 mpg while this is happening so it skews the overall consumption. We moan about the dealers not picking up silly faults, but we also moan when they run the car a bit. Cant have it both ways guys.

Chill. If the cars ok, why worry?

The recall is purely reprogramming the Injection computer for throttle body management.

It does however require a short road test to set the throttle limits and fuelling..

will this affect the mpg reading on the trip computer?? .. im saying it will have no effect at all .. if the engine is running then the trip will work.. after all it works the mpg out by the injector timings.. bullsh*tting me by telling me that it needs time to settle down has riled me

The reprogramming wont affect the MPG readout directly..

But i am loathed to say that perhaps a little bit of a heavy right foot on road test? But then we will get into a discussion about this and all Technicians will get tarred with the same brush!!

Short of having inbuilt GPS trackers, theres not much we can, is there? Ive had strong suspicions when my ex-GT was at Fiat, that it had been run ragged. Theres not much proof that carries any weight and unfortunately, youre left with trust and trust alone.

I know how pissed you feel, vee6, just dont take it there in future...

Renault wont want to know either. Mine came back with 20+ miles on the clock. I got nothing from them and I wrote letters to the dealership and Renault UK.

If youre that worried about it, fit a surveillance camera in the car, one of those Nokia cameras that sends pics back to you via MMS, or just a plain old tape recorder to record their antics on the "test drive".

Or, DaysofThunder style, fit a tell-tale rev counter/recorder which will tell you the peak rpm recorded after youve dropped the car off.

I trundled to the shops today, less than 1 mile, in stop-start traffic and didnt go above 3000 rpm in any gear and got a mpg read out of 13.1 ! Rubbish fuel consumption doesnt always mean its been ragged.

I can understand your concern. If anyone is gonna drive your car hard it should be you only.

Unfortunately you have to trust whatever garage you take your car to. Took my 172 in to Renault who had to road test it twice and I cant imagine they were too delicate with it.

Your MPG may not be down to it being completely ragged though, unfortunately impossible to prove otherwise.

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,

Its back fixed and tested - if you change the ecu and dont run it hard how do you know if theres no glitches - youd be well pissed if it had a missfire at 6500 rpm and the dealer said he only drove it gently so he wouldnt have noticed!!

It only pulls 7200 rpm and has steel rods - Ive run mine at 8000rpm for 800miles with an 8750 spike neutral gear overrev (oops). Itll be fine.

He wont have pushed it round corners cos bending it would not be good. A squirt up the road is fine, christ we do it every day!

Ti can understand what you are saying here.. up to a point .. i tried beating the crap out of it today ( i can cos its mine !!) 16.6 is all i could muster, and i wasnt pussyfooting about.....If what Telford mike said is true "The car does 0 mpg while this is happening so it skews the overall consumption." then i can kinda see the point and live with it .. but i need to double check that when it is idling it is working out the MPG.. thing is i thought most cars had infinite mpg at 0 mph .. if Telford mike is correct then i am passified, but sure as sh*t my car wont be going back to the dealers i took it too

Its true mate - leave your car idling for a couple of hours then drive it 1 mile up the road - youll record about 0.5mpg. Its not infinite mpg, its 0 mpg - youre using fuel, but going nowhere.

vee6 : most probably its just been sitting in the garage running for quite a while. They then took it out for a road test. The MPG function works out the MPG based on distance travelled and fuel used (in gallons) since it was last reset. Conclusion : it may have been ragged but chances are it hasn’t and it would be very very difficult to prove anyway.

it had burned up 0.8 gallons .. which kinda goes along with my original thoughts of ragging the crap out of it .. but its one of those things .. no point in making a fuss .. cant prove a damm thing , just have to sit around when they service it next time
