Auto Xenons

Hi just wondered if anyone knew anything about the auto xenon lights on a phase 2 clio 172? They were working fine and used to turn on automatically when dark, but just stopped doing this about a week ago.
Any ideas much appreciated.

Key in, turn so all electrics are on, turn lights on and off twice, car will beep and hey presto, auto lights are back.

Just wondering if this applys to turning the auto buggers off aswell

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the same procedure to turn off as well.
