AutoCAD HELP?!

  Clio
hi guys started my apprenticeship in january and loving the job, just need abit of help from a fellow autocad'er, just drawn something that has a bracket on, copied the bracket and scaled it to 3 times as big so i could dimension it alot neater, unfortunately the dimensions on it are now also 3 times as big as they should be i.e 60 is now 180, cant work out how to get the dimension to what it should actually be :dapprove:

all help much appreciated, cheers, Mike.

Redo the dimensions. Or manually input the numbers using ddmodify, or scale down again once you've done them all.

your text size should always be the same eg. 2.5...

then in fit there is a scale fact.. that what you adjust for the different scales of the drawing... eg. 5 for scale 1:5...

Good draughting practice is to always draw full size. Then set your dimension style to the appropriate size of drawing sheet you are using. Standards for text sizes for dimensions are generally 3.5mm high for a A1 drawing at scale 1:1 and 2.5mm high on an A3 drawing at scale of 1:1.
Hope this helps

yeah agree with Pete, draw it all 1 to 1 in model, then in paperspace set up the different view ports to the required scales...

good idea, cheers guys, so if i put the larger exploded views in seperate viewports in paper space then scale them and the dimensions?

I second that and I've been using CAD for five years

I always draw at 1:1 in model space then have quite a few different text styles for different heights in mm in Layout/sheet

ie for 2.5mm @ 1:1000 in model the text size is either 2500 if your drawing in mm or 2.5 if your drawing in m

1:500 you just half it so it's 1250/1.25 and you increase going the other way scale wise.

Hope that helps

thats what i do, but do my dimensions in model. drawing house plans so dont need to go too small with dims. etc

tbh you should be able to zoom in enough to dimension the bracket perfectly!? dont really see the problem tbh, just keep zooming in and make sure the object your drawing is 1:1

oh and i've been using CAD for 4 years :)

Yeah, there is no need to scale details up in model space. Just draw them at 1:1 in model space, and select the scale in the viewport in paperspace.

Unless you have LT97 like I do cos the cheap ass company won't upgrade, which doesn't even support paperspace properly. Load of bollox.

bloody hell LT97 lol, i've worked on R13, R14, Lt2000, now on LT2005, would like to be on LT2007 as i have it at home ;) and its very nice :)

Shutup :rasp:

I had AutoCAD 2000 where I used to work, back in 2002, then moved comapnies and stepped back into the stone age.

They are planning on getting LT 2007 soon hopefully.

You wont know how to use any AutoCAD package fully if you have never mastered the tablet........!

I was basically dragged up on it from my senior school days, been using it for 13 years since I was 11, I actually do think I could do most of what I do on a daily basis left handed with my eyes closed...

Thats not a boast, more of a way of saying get the basics right and your laughing

yeah your not wrong there ^^^^ your the same age as me, how did you get onto CAD at school i only started at college then obviouly with my job properly

ive been using CAD on and off for two years but trying to get into it full time now.

what kind of business does everyone use it in as a matter of interest?

where i work its making production drawings at a steel fabrication business

Release 10 with a tablet is were its at, old school :)

now ya talkin have used ACAD from 10 through to 2000 and LT the same. TurboCad and microstation from version 5 to version 8, then moved into PDMS before giving it all up to concentrate on engineering now. No more CAD unfortunately.

My school wasnt the norm in terms of council run secondary schools. It was a privately funded, but not privately exclusive secondary school and 16th form college. It was/is funded partly by its owners and backed financially through local engineering and science firms, Rolls Royce being one of them. As a result, technology was/is tought from the word go, and I just happened to start using AutoCAD (Release 12) from that point.

Doddy - I am a structural Engineering Technicain but have a degree in Product Design Engineering. I basically do what I do from having the experience of AutoCAD. I didnt have any structural Engineering experienc as such, but having any kind of ability to use ACAD at the minute and your laughing. Again, not boasting, but I get 6-10 calls a week at the minute from recruiters wanting to know my current situation so its obvious there is a massive shortfall of people with the skills at the moment. We have just taken on a guy with 2-3 months AutoCAD experience and nothing more

Are you for real Acejon? I've got 13.5 nearly 14 years experience on cad and I'm only 24 too. This isn't a boast, but you'll not find many people our age, with the level of experience we've got, will you.

I definatley concur with you about getting the basics right. If you do, Bob's your mothers brother...

I did a weeks course at Derby Uni. lol. Which I still haven't finished the assignments lol.

And I know have the job of upadating the site electrical schematics.

I can do it, but I'm slooooooow. lol.

lol f**k that, I had LT2000 for 2 years, and that got annoying having to ask every architech to send teh drawings in a certain format, R14 I think.

I told my boss I could get 2007, and he was fine with that so thats what I did. so much easier to use and quicker, and it even plots properly.
