aux belt, cam belt...whats the deal?

hello everyone, can anyone clear this one up for me
basically, im wondering what the deal is with this. when do they need doing and do they need doing together?
ive heard its about 36k?
im almost on 39k and havnt had either done, now i dont abuse my car at all, i cant aford to make things go wrong with this car so basically i take it easy everywere, i bike to work to save putting unecesary miles on only reli drive it on the nite if im going somewere, i rarely take it over 3k revs to be honest im driving that sensibly in it lol (im not sure if that would even efect when it needs to be done or not but i prosume its better than ragging it everywere)
a lad i work with has a 172 and he said he just had his done and his car is on 75k miles?i said to him ive heard its meant to be done at about 36k but he said it says in the book 70k. hes not on cliosport but ive told him to sign up.

Aux belt is 36k or 5 years (whichever comes first)
Cambelt is 72k or 5 years (whichever comes first)

Every 36000 or 5 years, whichever is soonest, for the aux belt and every 72000 or 5 years for the cambelt. Right?

ahh rite, cheers lads. so i take it the aux is not as big a job as the cambelt? any ideas how much it costs for the aux belt to be done?

Old is the 182, guessing it's had neither, not point doing the aux belt then doing the cambelt in a few months, as the aux will have to be done again.

You need full cambelt kit, and full aux belt kit fitted

About £450ish at a specialist.


Loads on here, but no idea where Co.Durham is so can't comment on the the nearest.

Yea il get them together, do ya think it will be bad idea to wait a bit to get them done, its only just turned 4 years old a couple monrh ago

I'd personally not wait any longer than 4 years mate.

Its out of warranty now. If the cambelt snaps, wave goodbye to £1500+ as you need a rebuilt engine. If the Aux belt goes, it will wrap around the cambelt and you'll be looking at £1500+ for an engine rebuild!

For the sake of £450, i'd get it done! At least you know its good and safe for another 3 years. Just make sure you have the full kit, not just the belts.

If it's done 36k and is 5 years old
Aux is due because of millage and the cars age
Cambelt is due because of the cars age.
