Aux belt tensioner replacement

Hi all , just a quick one really , my clio 182 has done 97k now, and i bought it with 94k, after owning it and doing a 1,000 i took it too birchdown for a cambelt , dephaser and aux belt all went fine
They mentioned the aux belt tensioner and they had one in, i said if it needs it do it , they did all of it but said the tensioner was fine!

Now after seeing a few things on here im beginning to panic a little about it ie if it goes it kills the new belts, im a mechanic myself so i might just bang a tensioner on anyway , i know birchdown said it was ok but is it worth doing ?

I took it to them because they were cheaper than doing it myself by time id bought tools and booked time of work etc!

What type if job are they to do as i haven't looked yet and how much is the tensioner cost?

Buy a aux belt kit from Renault, £60 + vat iirc.

Id get it done myself mate, did you know that if the aux belt fails it takes the cam belt out with it?

Renault state that the aux belt kit should also be replaced when the cam belt is replaced or every 3 years or 36k

Does it have be the kit? or can you just get a tensioner? seams silly put a belt on as its only done 3,000 at the most ? i mean worst come to worst id get it just seams over kill ?

Yeah the aux kit is £74 all in from Renault but from ECP its £150 + vat.

Renault state that once the belt has been removed it should not be retensioned. The Tensioner will more thank likely cost more than the whole kit just on its own, stupid i know.

Also the idler comes in the kit to.

Get a kit for the sake of £74 quid, new belt, new tensioner and idle pully

Luckily i am !! ive read front bumper off just somwhere , is that the case ? and can you do it in situe or do you need drop it off the engine mount ?

I've just done full belts on my ph1, I had os headlight out and I'm pretty sure it helped

Def only a sat morning job, I'd say a competent techy could do it in under an hr - couple of E-torx bolts and a 3/8 drive ratchet/bar to de tension it to get the belt on

The belt is tight!

As stated get bits from Renault, being in the trade they do really good deals

I'm deffinately going to get a full aux belt kit from Renault. I actually started a thread on here yesterday about the price of the kits. I saw the OE Renault kit on ebay for £72 and assumed it was cheap.. I assumed it was cheap as I'd seen an skf kit for £212 at euro car parts. Turns out they are only £60+vat from Renault.

Well i had the bumper off anyway to check the os wing

I also had arch liner removed, think u need this so you can thread a long extension through a hole to get the 13mm for the lower idler out

Yeah you have to whip the mount out the way (if your referring to the engine mount)

Just got a quote of £60 including vat forget we get staff discount at renault the tensioner on its own is £140 odd :S so a kit it is ! Do I need anything other than the kit? Idlers ? Etc
