Awful picture quality! Help!

  Mountune Tractor
I have a 40" Humax LCD TV but unfortunately it was made just before HDMI so doesn't have the slot, damn it!
Anyway I had sky + fitted recently and the picture quality is appalling, it's very very pixelated and annoys the crap out of me when I'm watching the footy.
Is there anything I can do to improve the picture i.e. DVI to HDMI? Anything at all would be of great help.

Mines connected to the RGB scart (and RGB setting set on the SKY+ box) and it looks great on my Sammy. Upclose it will not look good though no matter what connection.

Believe the technician did this on installation. What is that exactly and I'll double check tonight.

What channel are you watching the football on?

ITV is "ok" but football on channel 5 and Setanta is very poor. Sky Sports is better but SD football looks awful on my TV. HD ftw.. ;)

It's on all channels to be honest, even the tv guide, I'd question the quality of Humax TV's tbh. Just wondered if there were any ideas on improvment without buying new.

Does the TV have built in freeview? What's the picture quality like on that?

Can you hook a DVD player up to it and try that?

Yeah built in freeview and picture quality is much better, not perfect but much better than when sky is connected. DVD's are pretty good aswell.

Freeview broadcasts are generally of a higher bitrate and use more bandwidth than the same channels on Sky so that can account for "some" loss in quality but nothing too noticeable.

Have you had a look on AVforums for your TV? You might find that people have tweaked the settings to improve the picture quality.

I wouldn't know the exact model number without looking at home but it's a Humax 40" with built in freeview and PVR. I've had a look on AV and they talk about RGB alot and possible problems with TV's that have built in PVR systems.
