UPnP = Universal Plug and Play. It's basically a way for applications to dynamically configure port forwarding on routers so that non-techy people don't have to fiddle with NAT rules etc...
Azureus is configured to use UPnP if you're getting that error.
If you've manually configured port forwarding on your router, having UPnP enabled could be what's causing you to get disconnected (it may be over-riding the static port mappings that the router is listening on or something). If this is the case, disable UPnP.
On the other hand, if you haven't configured static port mappings, consider doing it. That way UPnP won't be an issue, and you might learn something in the process :p

BitTorrent has its uses actually.
I pay for the Giganews platinum service, which is awesome. Anything relatively new I can max my 20 megabit internet connection out with, but sometimes if I want something old I simply can't find it on the usenet network. That's where BitTorrent comes in. I often find it better for "old" stuff, such as films released in the 1980's that haven't been re-released on Blu-Ray yet, etc... etc...

i haven't used them for nearly 2 years now, theres nothing i haven't been able to find between newgroups and rapidshare.

Also, torrents are the highest chance of being caught, thats the important thing!
