Back in a clio!

  golf
Well I’m back in a clio after having my first 1.2 10 years ago as my first car and trawling these pages back then for advise on how to make it a boy racer piece of poop.

Anyway I was on the hunt for a cheap winter hack and potential “track weapon” and this £1200 172 cup popped up! How could I say no?! The only down side is that it was 270 miles away...but not to worry a friendly delivery driver was willing to drop it off to me for less then £1 a mile. The deal was done and driver paid in advance (driver was a mate of the owner).

The car arrived late last night with a quick look round with my phone torch to make sure it hasn’t pissed out any fluids and actually started, the cash was handed over and it was launched into a parking space outside my house, to be inspected in the morning.

So roll on today, at first glance it looks quite tidy! It had some horrid chrome numberplate surrounds which have now been binned, and some chrome door edge protectors which have also been binned. The headlights are cloudy and the exhaust blows abit.

The reason why it’s so cheap is mainly due to mileage(130k) but that didn’t phase me as it’s got receipts from a belt/dephaser change last year.

After giving it a hoon about today everything is pretty much in order apart from the slight smell of coolant in the cabin, which is probly the matrix but as it’s not a daily it’s not an issue to have acouple of weekends to change it, and the idle is rather lumpy but clears up above 1200rpm.

Plans are to get rid of the ditch finders, put a 300/320mm wheel on it as the thumb grips are knackard on the stock wheel

Bin the garish Sparco gear knob in favour of either a nylon ball (not sure if you can get one with lift up) or a Richmond ph1 style ball.

Swap brake fluid and pads then sling it around Abingdon/ beds in the new year.

Anyone selling a cheap suede 300mm wheel and boss hit me up or a cheap fatty induction kit!

Welcome back !

Think the tax disc is out of date

Nice to see it still original-ish and not covered in green/orange etc stickers and raped to death.

Someone was also giving away some fog lamps for free recently. Get yourself in there

Lumpy idle often means the person who changed the cam belt got the timing slightly out.
Without the correct tools it’s easy to get it wrong, as mine was.
Does it kangaroo at low RPM in traffic unless you ride the clutch?

Yea I was thinking about getting the timing checked out, doesn’t kangaroo too much iirc.
Parts for a fatty induction kit are in the post!
Been looking at omp wheels, some of the ebay fakes are horrific

Hehe I remember my 1.2 and making it boy "rice"ry. Mine has lumpy idle too. Getting some people in Dartford to sort it. But I'm having everything changed. Cam/defaser/water pump. Should run like a dream they specialist's to so that helps :p. Hopefully lol. Tell you after Tuesday.

My Clio 182 was transformed after Birchdown did the cam belt and sorted the cam timing.
Although the new clutch helped as well, in making it generally nicer to drive.

Fitted my fatty induction kit, removed some horrific stickers and fitted a fabia splitter!
