Many many years ago (17 years ago ish!) I had this:-

Despite being low mileage (27k when I bought it) and full Renault service history, it was an utter heap. Went through 2 gearboxes, shot a spark plug out the head, sheared inlet manifold bolts, the list goes on. So I sold it, quickly and left the Renault scene. Had a GTi-6 for many many years, then a load of dull company cars. Today I have a 2010 5 pot Focus ST (also in silver) with some bits and bobs on, making 270-280bhp ish, which is an absolute hoot and in 3+ years has been ultra reliable and acts as my company car. So obviously, what I need to go with it, is another phase 1 172...

So I've bought this:-

W916 SRH which I see has done some rounds on here before, you may have seen it on ebay.

I'd been watching a few recently but this one just creeped over what I wanted to pay. So I dropped the seller a message after the auction ended in the hope that the winning bidder was a time waster. Turned out I got lucky, seller had landed a timewaster so I made my offer, transferred a deposit and here we are.

I haven't actually got it yet, arrives Sunday, however I think I need to renew my CS membership as there's bits and bobs I want to do already! Hopefully it's as solid as it looks in the photo, as I've not seen or drove it :ROFLMAO:

Want - Phase 1 wheel refurbishing
Want - Original CAT

Nice car though I bet the "time waster" was just a bid booster account he (The seller) used to artificially raise the bid price.

So thought I'd give an update on this, as it arrived over a week or so now.

Initially a little disappointing as central locking via the fob doesn't work, but does work pressing the dash button inside. Bodywork wise is pretty good, bar 2 small bits of rust, clearly from a cheap previous paint job. Air vent broken, it's loud and needs a CAT. However, it drives brilliantly with everything feeling tight, no knocks, brakes straight a true and feels "fizzy". Hard to explain, but the combination of cable throttle resulting in instant throttle response, together with sharp handling makes it feel, well, fizzy. It pulls strong to the limiter but it is loud and I have a 5 pot Focus ST with deres and sports cat, so I'm used to loud.

List of things to sort:-

Central locking via fob (Now fixed)
Stereo with bluetooth (Mates given me one for free)
CAT (Now sourced, ready to fit)
Battery terminal so I can remove the rag (Now fixed by a mate, thanks Coops!)
Misfire (Now fixed by a mate, thanks Coops!)
Belts need doing (Cambelt kit, dephaser, water pump now sourced ready to fit)
Paint put right
Correct steering wheel (Sourced, needs refurbing)
Air vent broken
Rattles from both door cards
Sport badge for boot
Bonnet sits proud on one side
Under tray and front arch liners
ROT!

Looks mint right, but close up it has this, which are the only marks anywhere

Inside though, it's a bit rotten in the usual places. So it's booked in at a mates to have the rot cut out.

Reckon I'll be about 3k in, including the purchase price, once everything's sorted and it's mint. Which doesn't seem crazy money to me and I reckon it's only a few years before these will start fetching that sort of money anyway.

So for the past 2 month, it's been sat in a unit, under cover, SORN'd doing nothing. This is partly due to a fuel line coming loose, snagging the power steering and splitting the fuel line. I decided to just leave it then as I didn't need 3 cars. However last week I thought was a good time to get it all sorted. So it's just had:-

Cambelt kit including waterpump and dephaser
Aux belt kit
Oil and filter
CAT put on
Standard gear shift fitted
Inner archs wire brushed and waxoyl
Outer sill seams waxoyl
Sport badge on
New plates
Phase 1 172 steering wheel on
Interior out for rust treatment, then refitted
Together with a full look over by a mate who owns a Renault specialist unit

Reasonably happy with it for the time, drives perfect. Needs 2 jacking points chopping out and welding fresh ones in, then it'd be pretty tidy. For the time being though, I'm just going to use it and enjoy, may track it once the pandemic has calmed down.

I was wondering what came of this, last I read on PH you were toying with moving it on.
What shifter and wheel were on it? I forget now.

Yeah was thinking of moving it on, but the rust isn't as bad as I initially thought so decided to get it fixed up instead.

BMS shifter and a poverty spec steering wheel on originally, both now in the for sale section! BMS shifter was tight tbh, worked well but I wanted an original car.

So, I realise I've not updated this thread in a while, I am updating it via PH though. Been using it whenever its dry for a few month though, had no issues with it. Used it for a number of business trips as well, which always seems to draw a crowd when I pull up. Something I wasn't expecting tbh, but there's always someone wanting to tell you about a 182 they had years back and loved. Been tinkering with getting little niggly things sorted, all good. Next up is MOT in September, then welding over winter.
