Bad luck and stupidity

  Clio 182 ff
So i c**ked up, and by typical bad luck has come back to bite me.

Bought the Clio 182 on ebay, big mistake.

Seller said the cam & aux belts, wiring loom and a few other things had been done by the previous owner in 2010.
Less than a month in my ownership, the wiring loom shorts, burns out. Garage say its a whole bloody mess of a bodge job that has caused a lot of damaged. Minimum of £1300 to put right!

Im shocked. Pissed off with myself.
I dont have that kind of money to put it right.

I know ive got no come back with the seller or ebay.

All im trying to decied now is do i get the work done, or get shot of the car, at a massive loss due to the work that now needs doing.

I actually feel sick :(

As far as im aware, if the seller told you everything was in working order etc, then you do have a comeback.

Im not sure on all the laws etc though, but im sure people will help, possibly Daniel.

If you bought it from a garage, you have a comeback.

If it was private, you're on your own kid.

I have very little sympathy I'm afraid. Everything is cheap for a reason. If you wanted a decent spec, well documented history car, eBay would not be the place to buy one. I'm guessing you bought It cheap and thought you got a bargain.

If you're local to bristol, pm me. I have entire ph1 172 looms, ph2 looms, and 182 looms, tools, workshop etc and may be able to help.

Trade sale? Some form of 30 days to accept it, or something like that, not entirely sure.

Private sale? You have no come back what so ever, buyer beware. Live and learn i'm affraid.

Could always break the car and try and get some money back.

£1300? Buy a new car for that! ! Definitely get a 2nd opinion off someone you can trust.

Yep, privite sale. I know i have no come back on the seller or ebay. Brought a car which had had work done, in the (vain) hope that it was at least vaguely well looked after. Unfortunatly not.

Breaking it and walking away is a thought but i can not do that myself so would have to just sell it.
So general opinion is to get rid of it one way or another? :(

How much did you pay for it?

Give Dan a PM! It's not rocket science to swap the loom!

Out of curiosity had the belts and stuff actually been done? Ie evidence of it, receipts etc? If not, why the hell did you buy it?

Not sure i'd notice a dodgy wiring loom either mate.

£1900.

Yeah just sent him a PM.
Garage was going on about lots of damage so i dont know what else is fooked. One problem is my mobile is broken at the moment, so communicating with the garage has been tricky.

Yeah got receipts for the belts, got a stack of receipts. Didnt check for receipt for the loom though.

I assume the car is a non-runner now?

Getting it up to Micks in Nottingham won't be cheap. Hopefully Daniel has you sorted!

As a few people have suggested, get a realistic price from a RenaultSport specialist and then make your decision. Without an accurate repair figure you're going to be basing a decision without the full picture.
Danlp6 might be able to assist being that he's not too far away, or Daniel has already offered some support too.

£1300 to replace an engine loom? its a 3hour job FFS! Sounds like the garage are taking the piss too, although you don't specify the EXACT damage

£1300 would get you a second hand engine/box/clutch etc FITTED with new belts etc

Fair play to this forum. Newbie has a problem, everybody wants to help.
Sorry if this gets classed as spam and I accept the smack in the mouth if it is, but threads like these are the reason I come here. :)
