Badly Scratched Standard 182 Exhaust Tips. What To Use?

As above. Are they chrome or stainless steel? Could I rub them down first with wet/dry steel wool?

The standard exhaust is only mild steel then chromed and marks etc cant be polished out especially with steel wool,only thing is to buy some slip on exhaust tips
