Baffled by a wired component under outside door handle

  200,182 Trophy, Cup
I've asked this question of the Trophy forum team but no one can solve it.
If I lift the drivers/passenger door handle and look under it there is a black vinyl "pod" about 5cm long x 5mm across. Into it go 2 very thin black and red wires. It is stuck onto the door panel immediately below the hinge point. There is one under either handle.

It looks to me very much like some sort of magnetic reed switch and I wondered whether these cars have some sort of alarm tamper on the door handle which activates the alarm if the handle is lifted.

The car is a Trophy so comes with the thatcham cat 1 system .

Can anyone shed any light on it. I will take some photos when I can.

You could be right there. I'd not considered lighting and not actually been in it in the dark. I'm having a couple of marks on the wheels sorted in my mates paint shop so will have a look when it comes back.
