Bare shells..

Thought i'd bring this discussion up in here,Seen as there are a lot of track day people on here and committed race drivers with the clio's.

Do many of you buy bare shells and build the car up from scratch?

or do you just buy a clio and strip it down?

I will shortly have a bare 172 shell up for sale. will come with a windscreen, rear 3 windows and subframe and a log book.

Don't see many shells up for sale on the net.

i know theyre not worth much, but would seem a waste to scrap.

Any suggested sites for these sort of things?

Ebay, pistonheads.

They fetch good money for what they are. People that are building a track/race car would rather buy a naked shell so that they can see what they're buying.

also interested in this as i'm in the same boat, perfectly straight shell on axle stands with all doors and glass and subframe.

I bought mine as a bare shell, ideal. To start from scratch and only put in what is needed. Although i did buy it only for 2 reasons, mainly for the colour and cage already fitted.

the doors and boot are still on it atm. theres no wings on it.

what sort of price would i be looking at selling for?

cool. sounds a tidy price :) just a little jet wash under there and it'll be like new.

can see its clean under the arches also: thats when i started stripping the car down

either way, i'd rather let someone have it for scrap value rather than scrap it tbh.

but if i was doing that, id take the doors ect off it.

Meh someone turns up with 150 they can take mine with all doors and glass, steering rack, steering column, sub frame, fuel tank, wipers.

i was just thinking of putting the bare shell (no doors or anything) on ebay for 99p starting

mines a PH1 shell. all though it doesnt matter because there is no difference. the number plate would be 'w' reg if it was going to be a ph2 front end on it which would look weird.

I sold a Ph2 shell with the bottom half of the dash still in, doors, boot lid and axle for £250
 
I had quite alot of people pm me trying to buy a shell of a 172 cup I broke.

The shell was too damaged though hence breaking.
