I know its obvious Barry, but wouldnt the oil temp gauge be the thing to read oil temp from? Sorry Im being stupid here, Mat already answered it!
No point having over cooled oil though which is probably what youre getting at. I run an oil cooler with a stat so it keeps it rocksteady at around 90-100 c.
the thermo controls flow of water to the radiator. when it gets hot (to a pre determined temp), it opens to allow awter to the rad. teh fan temp switch simply turns on teh fan behind the rad at a set temp.......basic cooling of water in the engine.
what he bought was a thermo that opened earlier anda fan that switches on at a cooler temp.
i personally have never needed one, but some people ahve cars which get very hot in traffic or when thrashed, which in most cases is just an old thermo which doesnt open the whole way.
Hmmm...was thinking of getting these bits myself, but then my car doesnt overheat anyway. Id probably get them if I used the car every day in traffic though - but I dont! Oh the joys of using my car once a week!
