well it failed on : wipers
handbrake
buckled wheel
one top mount is high and wobbles for some reason
rear springs move around when the car is lifted
thanks guys
You don't lift the car for an MOT... so the spring issue is surely irrelevant?
ok im wrong. lol
Then how do you check underneath the car for ball joints, tyre treads, play in bearings, exhaust system, track rod ends, steering rack etc?
Garages at mine have always used a tunnel under the car.
As for the rear springs they are removed and inserted by jacking the car up, and as far as I know they sit on the top and bottom mount but are secured by the weight of the car. So the higher the car is jacked the more likely the springs is to wobble.

I would sort out the other little problems such as top mount etc.. and take it to a different garage, did you take it to a reputable garage for the MOT? I have found qwik-fit to be pretty good with MOTs in the past but then again it depends on the actual test centre.
Jesus.
You need to raise the car to check wheel bearings, suspension springs etc
The springs are held in by themselves but the suspension at full droop is limited by the travel on the shock absorbers.

Yeah, but if the tester Jacks the car higher then normal surely that would induce play?
No.
It will still need the same height to lift the wheels off the ground. If it doesn't stay seated when jacked up it is a failure. Look at the lucky escape thread in general automotive on here, that is a prime example of how dangerous it can be.
Fair enough I was wrong

Just shows how much incorrect info there is on cs leading people down the wrong path.
