Belts change advice

  RS172
Getting ready to book the 172 in for belts and dephaser, was wondering if it's worth changing the water pump too or is this not going to be needed as such?

Price quoted from Ktec is £761.60 for all belts, dephaser and water pump supplied and fitted

Two techs in dartford would be closer? I'm sure there's another specialist your way aswell but the name escapes me

Is it actually worth changing the water pump? My understanding is its on the aux rather than the timing?

Mine didn't get changed in 2011 on my 51 plate 172 still in good order I would change it if you can afford it it's worth doing at the time

Do the water pump, ive had one destroy an engine and one stupidly loud in the past month. It was that bad the bloke thought he needed a new engine!

I'm starting to find a few more with issues now.

urrrgh! Don't say that! Haha. Im sure if there is an issue, the lads at Birchdown will see it and let me know! Be nice to have it all sorted and know in my mind that the engine has been sorted for now. :)

Just do the water pump, We had a 2 litre mk1 scenic in for a cambelt kit and aux belt kit (same aux belt set-up as a 172/182), water pump was fine at the time, car went away did 2,000 miles and the water pump collapsed, belt came off and went into the cambelt, fuked the engine.

Oh feck it, I will get one before the 29th then when the car is booked in for! Makes sense I guess since they will be I there doing the belts anyway, guess it means I will need coolant as well... :/ all bloody adds up! Going to spend more than the car cost me at this rate!

The water pumps are generally pretty bulletproof but when your spending that much anyway is it worth taking the risk?

Waterpumps are now becoming very problematic. With most knocking on 10years + and just short of 100k it makes sense to just change them.

Mine only lasted to 50k miles:(

The beauty is they are not timing belt driven. So if the become noisey etc its only pum ,coolant and aux kut/belt job so not a biggy.

May aswel get it done for the cost of the water pump. Then you know its sorted for a good while to come

You'll be annoyed if you spend that sort of money and then 6/12 months down line its noisy and you have to change pump and aux belt/kit again
