belts done 5yr ago but only 15k since?

Car  clio 172 phase 2
Hi all,

I've got first refusal on a phase 1 172 with low mileage and was wondering if I need to do the belts again considering it had them done in 2005 but has only done 15K since then. I know it's a judgement call but what would people do?

I will get an oil service (minimum) at JMS if I buy it. Will they be able to tell what shape the belts are in then?

Kind regards

Matt

Will need changing. No it's not done a lot if miles but rubber perishes and weakens over time

Change both!

Its mileage or years whatever comes first. IMO only a fool would take chances with a belt change. Put the cost of changing them in relation to what a snapped belt will set you back and you will understand.

many thanks. I have just retracted my offer as an added £350-400 takes the shine off the deal. I'm not a risk taker by nature so it would have given me sleepless nights.

The car is on ebay for £3295 looks a good un. The engine and gearbox felt strong and tight but the rear brakes are v corroded and would need doing also tyres a bit craked (old!). Bodywork v good and has been serviced 7 times in 31k. Anyway next time.
