Best 6x9s (loudest, bassiest....)

Right, Ive blown one of my Infinity Kappas so Im after a new set of 6x9s.

Should I get the same, or are there better available?

have a listen to the focal access 6x9s in ur local halfords ripspeed. should b runnin off a vibe VP1 amplifier and sound really nice with a strong lower/mid bass....big magnets aint everything

the loudest and bassiest 6x9s i have listened to are the genesis 6x9 subs, should be perfect as they dont destroy the sound stage like traditional 6x9s do

  2015 Audi S3 Stage 3

fusion do good loud 6x9s

alpine type rs r alrite

infinity kappa 2

or kenwood 7x10s

got some of them focal 6x9s in our shop, for the price i dont think they sound that great.

i have mbquart DTC69s, they were gid for 80 bucks.

got to agree with John on this one, the Focal 6x9s were a token gesture to try and get some sales in the most popular market as far as sales are concerned, and they really do not meet the expected standards of most Focal speakers

avoid Alpine speakers, for what you pay, they really are poor, there are better for the money

infinity kappa - as a teacher once wrote on my report card - could do better

kenwood 7x10s - kenwood should stick to doing what they do best - making food processors, their ICE really is of a poor quality

This man is right !! Scrap the 6x9s and get a good set of components and a sub !

yes James that is the best option, but some people are hell bent on getting them, so i may aswell advise as best i know

How did I know someone would come out with this lol!

I know that set-up is best, but Im after a fairly loud but lightweight system. Hence the 6x9s instead of a sub.

Already got some MB Quart components running of an Alpine V12, and an Alpine H/U.

What about Genesis 6x9 subs?? subs in the shape of a 6x9 speaker. new out.
Will have to have a look at these?

Do people think they are my best option.....

cant be arsed with subs then 6x9s are the way to go. I picked up some Pioneer 4-ways after my Kappas, as for some reason they wont work with my head unit!? They are really crisp and the bass is really good. Kenwood are okay, but your best buying the most expensive ones they do. I had about 5 sets of 6x9s in my car before deciding on the best ones for me. Depends what sort of music u listen to as well, as Ive noticed that they all have their own unique little sound. Whatever you do though dont get Sony X-plod, I found these to be quite poor in honesty.

Last point is that the shelf that came with my car was a custom one, but decided to get a new one as it looked a bit tatty. This also made a BIG difference to the sound quality. Some make it sound muffled and poppy with certain 6x9s (Sony in particular). Also depends on the head unit and the quality of the sound I guess.

sorry bambam. i had these in my cooper S. they were sealed in an air tight box in there normal location with builders foam (to keep the boot free). it was like having a sub in the boot. i was very impressed with them. i also had a massive 5 channel amp and the whole system was active, that would also make it seem louder and bassier. it was very clear bass too. i would recommend them. just remember to make it an air tight enclosure for full impact.

So whats the arguement against rear sound? Why only front componants?
no idea, guess it depends if you want pounding bass to impress the Nova drivers in Maccy Ds on Friday nights then subs r the way to go.

Tom, Question 1 - Are (were) your Kappas amped?

Question 2 - do you have a sub? If so, get a cheap set of 6x9s IMO.

Question 2 - do you have a sub? If so, get a cheap set of 6x9s IMO. No, keeping it lightweight, hence a decent set of 6x9s

when you go to a concert, you dont face away from the stage do you?

basically by placing any sort of treble in the rear, this is essentially what you are doing, the sound you listen to (treble, mid) should come from the front, and the sound you hear (bass) has no direction, so can be placed anywhere

have a look at any competition ICE car and look to see if they have any 6x9s fitted, i can almost guarantee that most if not all of them will not have 6x9s fitted

IMHO the only benefit 6x9s give a system is the fact they produce noise

sarcasm doesnt suit you

as any reputable ICE dealer what their opinions of 6x9s are, they will tell you exactly the same as i have put above, if not, they should be working in Halford or TMC

basically, the ideal set-up for any car is a set of components up front with the tweeter mounted within two inches of the mid, one 8 or 10 inch sub (or a couple of 6" subs mounted on shelf may be suffice) powered from two individual amps, this will give the best overall sound stage, oh and a s**t load of sound deadening

worryingly a main reason people buy 6x9s is so their rear seat passengers have something other than bass to listen to, if this is the case, get some co-axials for the factory locations and power them off the head unit, but at the end of the day, why buy speakers for anyone else? you drive the car, listen to it the way you would like to listen to it

this is proven to be the best quality set-up, if you dont like it, who cares, i just thought id best put the reasons for not having 6x9s, i still havent heard a good argument for using 6x9s and i work part time as an installer, and ive heard all the reasons people can possibly give

i was only messin m8, but yeah, you obviously know ure sh*t so fair play. My opinion though, is that if you dont wanna pay a fortune 6x9s are good enough. The clarity I get in the front is good enough for me, but I dont really listen to music that requires that sort of clarity thats all.

Tom, better yet see if someone can show you their setup in there car, youll deffo get a better idea of what you think you will need. Speakers on the demo stands seem to sound different when they are in your car.

i reckon you should go to your closest car audio place and ask some experts. thats what i did along with my old man (who is an expert in this field himself) and that how i came about getting the Genesis. I cant remember their web site address! i know they have a demo car that goes round these audio shops now and then.

I have some pioneer 330W 3-Way 6x9s from halford for £70.

They give quite good bass, but if u pump the volume up really loud then they start to distort

lunner, that wont be the speakers distorting, if they are run from the head unit, it will be the head unit amplifier distorting.

common mistake that.
