Hi all

This sounds like a silly question, but let me explain

Whats the best way to get a clio 1.4rt into reverse?

Ive heard there are different ways for each car e.g.

Go straight from any gear to reverse,

pull up collar - press clutch and then into reverse,

go into neutral, take foot of clutch, back onto clutch then into reverse,

go into first, then go into reverse.

At the moment im just going from any gear to reverse, however i sometimes get some strange noises when reversing so wondered if this could be the prob.

nah seriously, when i learn to drive my instructor always told me to put it in neutral and then go into reverse or sometimes it dont go in properly. then one of my m8s told me to pull the collar up, then put the clutch down and into reverse, and then i read on hear to stop the crunching, always go into first before reverse :-S

Why would u be going form any gear into reverse???? I have to question your mental stability right now, but anyone wo is actiully in ayy 3rd or 4th gear u would think would be going forward doing somewhere around 50/60 miles an hour so why the hell would u even contemplating going into reverse? Are u a stunt driver coz that would be veryn impressive if u were atempting to loose ur gearbox? lol

ok hears an example. i live on a hill and reverse onto my drive. i come down the hill doing about 30 (in 3rd or 4th) then as i pull up i dip the clutch, bring the car to a halt, pop it in reverse and stick it on the drive!

guess that makes me mental then?!?!?!?!

Ok, I know what you on about..

Drive up, 2nd gear.. brake, clutch down.. move from 2nd to reverse, clutch up, go back.. is what I do in my Clio...

Now, Ive been in two Fords, (Ka and a Puma) and both were odd - they wouldnt go into Reverse like the way my Clio does 60% of the time.. So in that case, it was 2nd gear, brake clutch down.. Neutral.. Pump Clutch (clutch up.. clutch down), then Pop reverse.

i know in some cars it helps if you hold the clutch down for 2-3 secs before engaging reverse. my mates escort rs turbo was the worst, had to put it into second before putting it into first and if he selected reverse you would hear a lovely grinding noise followed by the exhaust shaking violetly up and down!

daz your right, exept my bros old mk 2 fiesta 1.1, which when crawling along in first gear used to jump itself into reverse! you should have seen peoples faces in the cars behind!
