Not really ever been into PC racing games but willing to give them a go, whats the best one available at the moment?

Depends what you want really.

Sim I would go for GTR Evolution for the most polished game with potential to add different cars into it. Best place for them I have found is NoGripRacing. Other option includes rFactor which as a basic game is pants but once you start adding the mods on its pretty awesome especially for open wheel stuff. rFactor Central is the place to go for mods for that one which include loads of F1 seasons, Clio Cup racers and Megane Trophy.

If sim is where you wanna go then a nice steering wheel will make it a million times easier to play.

My old setup :D New one is gonna include 3x24" monitors and stretch the game over all three!

Trackmania, as said above, is awesome for fun and easy to play game.

^ yea g25 is epic love my one! LFS i have probably have had the best value for money of any game. The physics are truely awsome, and the FOX which is basically a formula renault is so much fun, the online play is wicked with some good servers and amazing racers. try the demo see what you think. But you NEED a wheel for it. Keyboard mouse does it no justice!

A definite - or ideally a decent wheel setup for it. I've got the G25 and GTR Evo above like Krispwee - and on keyboard, it's borderline pointless and imo, quite boring. The all-or-nothing inputs make some cars crazy to control - one that springs to mind is the free download of the Porsche 935 from nogripracing (again, another good shout from Krispwee ). With the G25, it a potent point & squirt type of car, married to a understeering nose when it comes to the corners. It does however, feel epic when you're in control of the reins.

Graphically, GTR Evo is waaaaay behind the likes of more familiar console games like Forza 3 and GT5p - but the beauty of it isn't in the eye-candy - it's in the way in plays.

I took a bobby-basic YouTube recording of the STCC add-on at Falkenberg some time ago. Gives you an idea at least - not forgetting that the YT clip is half as smooth as the game really is, due to the FRAPS recording taking 50% of the CPU. :)

Well tbh, BenR on here used to consistently whup my laptimes using a 360 controller on the PC - so it certainly can be done. Either that, or I'm just shat. ;)

Definitely logon to nogripracing and sign-up for free. Some of the downloads are truly superb - in particular the the GT Legends mod that gave you the cars from the original GTL game. It 'may' have be pulled due to Simbin kicking off about that, though?

Some motors on there....

Yeh GTR2 is brilliant and as you say it does feel a bit more difficult. I think I've got GTR2 for GTR Evo.

Favourite car is the Caterham CSR 320 on the Nurburgring with all aids off. Hard work but thoroughly enjoyable when you get it right

That one is a fecker! Some of my faves include the Radical SR4 252bhp version and the Fiat Abarth from GTL. That thing is brilliant around Brands - you hardly have to back off and attack most corners in a long, drawn out drift. :)

Perhaps the car of the 'big hitters' that I feel most in control of is the Saleen S7. It feels quite natural that.
