FastChip? Do it yourself and save £150?

Im with Lead_Head.

£140 to get the kit delivered. All you then need is a laptop and internet to download the software and the maps you need.

I have done mine and its well worth it! The software also gives diagnostic information, live data as well as a rough BHP and tourque read out.

Save yourself some money and the bonus is you dont have to keep re-paying the garage to update or revert to the orginal map and you can do it yourself!!

sounds good, but how difficult is it to do really,i mean is it just a case of downloading it pluging it into the car and pushing a button to upload it

As far as I know you purchase the kit from www.fastchip.nl

You get a cable you plug in to the laptop, download and install the re-mapping software. Plug in the cable just behind the gearstick, under the compartment in the centre console that slides out.

Back up your existing ECU software and then update with either a 98ron map, a group n map. Just make sure you pick the right .rst and .cal for your particular ECU. They are tweaked from time to time too and release new calibration files to upload to the .rst.

You can also get them to produce a custom map for around £50 specific to the mods on your car.

I'm planning on doing mine once my Warranty runs out :)

Pretty much yes!

The RSTuner is very simple, you just need to make sure that you download the right map for your car. It is advised to take a backup of the original software before uploading a new map but the instructions tell you how to do this.

http://www.fastchip.nl is where you buy them from. Ordered mine on a Thursday and was with me by Tuesday.

There are quite a few threads on here if you search for "RSTuner" for more information. But the general feedback is very good and i am more than pleased with my results.

Why you waiting till your warranty runs out? If you need any work doing under warranty then you can always revert back to the original ECU software if required!

Would they really check the ECU software when doing work under warranty?

i dont know what all this .rst and .cal means tho,so how will i know its right for my car

The file you download has a filename that matches that of your ECU, you really can't go wrong :)

To the other question, after the Warranty coincides with when I should be able to afford it :p

If you go on the website and download the RSTuner Manual. This gives you the information to work out which files you need for your car.

Until you have the RSTuner software and you know which version of software your current ECU is its quite hard to work out which files you need to download.

I am here to help you. First thing is to clear any error codes and make a quick datalogging to see if you have any manifold air leaks and /or other issues.

Yes once you have fixed an error you can clear the codes. Not sure how it can show manifold leaks etc tho?

I'd help you but i'm working away at the moment. Its really simple mate just make sure you read the manual a few times and also read the countless threads on here about it. - If i can manage it, it carn't be too hard :)

If you have any questions drop us a PM - we have the same car so the files might be the same too

Sounds interesting. On a standard Ph2 with just a Ktec panel filter what kind of improvements are likely?

Cheers
