Best place for private plate?

I don't understand how there are so many people selling plates, as I thought they all belonged to DVLA etc.. but anyway, where do people recommend?

I've found out D9 VYF = DAVY F but the F is irrelevant, which i think would annoy me after a while, and I've got them to £399 down from £550.

Any other suggestions?

I want F17 SJD = Feb 17th, Samuel James Davy.. but can't find anything even close.

Most plate companies will just buy them from the DVLA when you buy it from them. They add on their mark up etc & say it's plus the transfer fee. Or the plates they have listed are on consignment, so they don't actually have them etc. You or I could have them & we ask the plate place to sell it on our behalf, then the plate place will give us back a percentage of the sale.

The F reg plate you wanted was probably issued on a regular car, it probably wasn't deemed to be a 'personal plate' back then. Either that or the DVLA have never actually released it.

The DVLA are your best bet. Prices are 'all in' too!

Thanks for that mate.

Yeah I've learnt that F = 1986 or something, the company i'm speaking to at the moment for the one above are ThePrivatePlateCo. and it works out pretty expensive for a £399 plate.

The DVLA don't have the D9 one listed, so that place won't be buying it from them, otherwise you could have just gone direct to the DVLA for it.

Yeah I know, just tried to ring DVLA to see about the F17 one, they just say they are busy and hang up, not even put into a queue, useless!
