Best product for restoring exhaust tips?

As per the title,

Whats the best product to use to get chrome exhaust tips back to their best?

Mine are black, been rubbing Autosol on them for a few hours and they have come up partly, but not like new.

Anything out there?

I used Megs metal polish on mine, and it worked well. I found less was better, and work in small areas.

Not sure it would be up to the job though, if you say you've been at it for a while with no joy.

Britemax metal twins for me and some #00 grade wire wool :)

The small black deposits found on the outer surface of the tailpipes is more likely to be tar, actually, so a good tar remover first followed by the polishing with a metal polish and wire wool would bring them up to as new condition.

+1 used this combo on the tips of the Miltek on my 225 and it came up better than new!

There's a lot of good metal polishes out there. I live the little mini set Brite max do now.

I have always used Autosol to good effect, applied with a microfibre too.

Is there better results with wire wool? Does that not scratch?

What did you apply it with? If they're that bad then whatever you use you'll more than likely need to use it with wire wool

Mercury is outstanding and that's coming from the least likely person to back a forum sponsor FYI. It has a better chemical cleaning action that Autosol when compared a few months back on heavily carbon'd exhausts.

The AF Mercury is very good IMO.

As yours is bad now, use some 00 Grade wire wool, then in future you can just use a MF cloth to apply it.

I dont know about chrome but my exhaust is stainless, i just removed the bumper and used a wire wheel brush on a drill inside the tips that got everything out. (4years of decat abuse) and now just clean them every few months with Britemax metal twins with alot less effort.
