THings like speakers comes down to a couple things. Budget, and the what sound you like. Best off listening to speakers before you buy them. But go with something decent.

Rainbow, Focal, JL, Diamond etc etc. Just don't chuck sonys or something like that in and you should be fine.

And if you want them to sound there best a small amplifier. Can get some tiny amps now which can put some decent power out. So doesn't add too much weight if you are in the "OMG I can't have an extra KG of weight in the car as it will add 0.005 seconds to the 60 time" camp.

tbh mate,
if you want to upgrade,
the best thing to do, is go out,
and listen to other peoples sound system,
if you havent got the car already, how do u know u wont like the sound the speakers produce??

a good speaker (to a degree) is down to personal opinion really, some people like speaker the kick out a little more bass, and some high end,

just avoid like the plague, makes that offer rediculous wattage output for the price (chav speakers)

nobody can tell you what your going to like in your own car,
all i can suggest, is that you go around and listen to other peoples set ups,
and see if you can find something you like,
although the standard speakers in the can are by blaupunt,
witch are far from a bad make to begin with,

unless you plan to become an audio head,
i wouldnt suggest pouring your money into makes such as DLS and focal to begin with,
because you just be able to tell where your moneys gone,

Pay about 500 quid all in for some Jl audio 3 ways and a bbg amp.

Then you will need some mid range bass. Don't buy 6x9's, they arent needed with the front set up. I suggest a punchy 10-12" sub or even some 5" mids to replace rear speakers.

Depends what music you want to listen to.

If you want arse trembling bass I have got a 15" Kicker L7 in my shed you can have, but then you would need to soundproof your car.

I spent just over 4k in my type r getting the sound just right, now I have the 182 I just wind the window down and the K-tec supersports is music to my ears.

It is a car after all. I learnt that from getting old. Spend any disposable you have on mods.

thanks for the tips the plan is this.

12" sub im thinkin one of them vibe air ones
and them some speakers that produce high vocal as opposed to base (as il have the sub)

two screens in headrests and dvd player upfront.

bang the lot in a 182

Just get some good quality components 2way, as you will not be able to position a 3 way without it sounding worse than a 2 way.
As said before go and have a listen to some folk and see what they have and chose from that.
A good quality amp, and good quality components, and sound deadening. All key things, also don't forget the quality of soudn is produced by the headunit, and it's ability to convert data into electrical pulses.
Many people forget that a headunit will make a BIG difference to sound quality!

I bought a JBL amp and sub deal for £125 from caraudiosecurity.com and have been very happy with it over the last 3 years. 300W RMS so plenty powerful too.

Sound in my 172 sounded crap before I fitted my sub, was very disappointed. A good set of components are definitely needed if you don't run a sub, and a new headunit definitely makes an audible difference. Now I have my sub fitted, its harder to hear the clarity of the treble as I like a more bassy set up, so I don't feel as disappointed lol
