Best Suspension

What is the best suspension money can by for my trophy?
Where from and how much?
What about anti roll bars and strut braces?
Are they worth it?
Which ones?

standard lol

seriously though the sachs dampers are awesome for the trophy, you can always change the springs though if your wanting a lower ride height?!

its not really worth changing to the like of leda and bilstein unless u knacker the sachs and renault havent got any spares to replace them

rear strut braces only work if welded to the strut turrets so it just depends how hardcore you are, russ at gasperformance does some nice proper rear struts, the omp, k tec ones just bolt to the strut tops so dont really anything for handling as they move with the struts. they are more for aesthetics

the same goes for front strut braces you can get loads ie omp, sparco, ktec but to perform properly you need to bolt or weld them in and not use the self tappers they come with as these dont have much rigidity, look at demon tweeks or k-tec for them

whiteline do a front and rear antiroll bar, i now a lot of the aus clio lot have the rear one and rave about it but appartently the rear end likes to step out a lot more with these fitted. do a search for whiteline as there was a review from a guy selling them on here a while ago

hope this helps fella :D

apparently you can mod the sachs and get a pin removed to lower the height slightly iirc?! i think mark fish does this mod doesnt he?

Hi guys, thanks for your responses. I have a few things to go on there.
My main idea about changing the suspension is that I want to do lots of trackdays in the future, as my bro does in his s1 elise. I know that the ride quality is very good. But I would like some higher spring rates. Im not interested in making the car lower, as it is fine as it is in my opinion. Would love to know if Mark fish can mod the sachs dampers back to adjustable.

im sure you can get different rate springs which will go on the trophy suspension, combined with the pin removal mod, this should give a really good trach set up :D

Whiteline dont do a front ARB as far as I know.

It is something I have been looking at as I can see the stupid bendy bit on the standard bar being a pain when we got to fit the engine.

Need to find some kind of Grp A blade type universal one for the front

Rear strut braces don't work regardless of fitment.

You can get a bigger ARB for the 172/182 I forget who makes it you could always DIY one if ned be.

i thought the ones like russ's did work edde? if they are welded/bolted between the turrets?

i know russ's is a larger diameter for show purposes but i would have thought this would tighten up the rear?

IMHO the standard car is perfect and can be adjusted if you know what your doing or by Mark Fish is your unsure.

Renault and Jean Ragnotti in particular spent a lot of time getting it right so my advice is just to leave it well alone.

Having done a fair few trackdays and been to the ring twice in my car I am happy with the suspension set up its just the driver that sucks.

I've done a fair amount of mods to my car so please feel free to contact me if your after any advice.

Cheers,

Matt.

I would have thought on a trackday you want more power then grip?

Going on track in something that wants to spit you off at every corner must be more exciting.

So swap your Trophy suspension for some off a 1.2 and stick some cheap remoulds on, get it sliding.

Sounds bloody good to me. I always wanted to drive my old impreza on 4 of the space savers it had in the boot. Great fun but very scary i expect!!! :S

what makes people think that things cant be improved upon?

Whilst the Sachs setup is amazing for the road, and very good on track, its not the be all, end all of setups.

I dont think anyone said it was. I think what people were sayin is that if youve bought a trophy then you were buyin it because of its exclusivity and cos of the uprated dampers etc. I agree totally that you can get a better setup with aftermarket stuff but to be honest if i had a trophy then i wouldnt be changin anything on it cos thats kind of defeating the object of it bein a trophy. Youd be better off sellin it and buyin a 182 cup and spendin the money u have left on suspension and other mods to make it a better car than a trophy.

Thats the spirit.

If you dont end up upside down in a gravel trap on fire, then whats the point.

Don't buy a Trophy and bin the suspension. The Sach's front units are awesome and you are going to have to spend a hugh amount of dosh to get something better.

I've got my Trophy set up with stiffer lowering springs which drop the car by 10mm all round (remember the Trophy is already 10mm lower at the front than a 182 cup). Too low is not good, you do need some travel.

The Sach's units have been un-pinned giving 40 possible adjustments. They are set on 20 clicks from the factory.

I've have also upgraded the rear shocks with a set of Koni's that Mark Fish has had re-valved to better match the fronts (the standard rear Koni's just don't go hard enough).

They performed great at Brands recently. Next up is top mounts for me!

Ohh don't bother with strut braces and roll over bars as just not needed.

But it depends what Renault were lookign for the in the car though as its IMo far from perfect for normal driving a 1.2 CLios a nicer car for me to drive long distances in.

AND?!?!?!

Indeed...i'd have a trophy over a 182 cup all day as IMO the 182 was a pointless excercise by renault...

At least the 172 cup was properly track biased with no ABS, traction control etc..
