Best way to clean polishing pads?

What is best to use to clean machine polishing pads without damaging the pad?

Auto finesse just told me to run them under warm water and massage the dried polish out of them. Then leave them to air dry

Very similar as above, apart from I leave them to soak in very shallow water for a few minutes first, just deep enough so it doesn't get to the backing velcro
