best way to replace dephaser on 172

Did you learn how to lap 16 valves in at college? I'd order a laping in stick and 16 valves if I was you cause reading this sounds like you'll need them. I know lots of mechanics who wouldn't even take this job on.

He can't afford a lapping stick, let alone the paste.
 
Jam a pencil in the crank pin.

Use a caramac nibbled to the shape of a horse shoe for the cams.

And loosen it alll off... windy gun every thing up ft. And your sorted.

Of course this isnt advice just a ideal :)

Having seen the tools he's bought, the caramac probably has more structural integrity.
