best way to take the gear box out.

hey guys I'm changing the clutch and gearbox in my phase 1 172 Clio, just wondering which way is easiest,out the top or out the bottom????

after reading that Matt I say sod that I'll drop the sub frame don't wanna be messing about with talkin the bumper and radiator and slam panel fee that's a ball ache plus having to refill anti freeze and reconnecting all the hoses lol

Has the gearbox had it or you just doing a clutch change?

Just seen the other thread and you are doing both.

If on the driveway i would go out the top personaly

both Martin, box is whining and clutch is to, gonna go out the bottom not got nothin to lift it out with so will drop the sub frame and and bring it out that way thank you though.

Out of the top isn't an option for most people, so I'd suggest out the bottom. I'm sure that on the clio you can just move it out of the way to one side for a clutch change without completely removing it.

​Not 100% on that though.

thanks Welshy, but I'm changing the box and the clutch clutch is making hell of a noise and the thrust bearing is too, if I lower the engine when the box mounting is off then the sub frame, should come out nicely hopefully lol
