BG 182 - Path Unknown

  Clio 182
So one week ago I seemingly won the race for a low mile (68k) BG 182 with both cup packs and a full service history. The car was standard with the only modification being LED sidelights. My plan is to have keep the car standard but change it all the bits that need refreshing.
So to start I will be replacing the front grille as the current one has faded too much and I will be restoring the lower grille too, I put a bit of trim dressing on and the difference is big. I'll replace the rear number plate light as it's going yellow, replacing the headlight washers as they're cracking, the slam panel rubber, and I'll be changing over the plates to private ones (slightly smaller front).
I'll be restoring the headlights too, getting rid of the small car park dings on the drivers door and eventually replacing the melted steering wheel all although the thumb grips are doing alright for now.
The belts have been done twice in it's life but I have got it booked in to have them all done again along with the dephaser just to be safe.
I'll update again once this all all done, the differences are small but I'm sure they'll all add up.

Okay so I had a go at the lower grille, not too shabby for a quick go although it needs properly reattaching to the bumper but this will be done once the bumper comes off for the cambelt.

Makes a change for one to be kept as Renault intended. May I ask what you paid for it?
It does and I've enjoyed driving a standard one so I have no urgency to do anything to it, I'm liking the idea of doing a mini restoration.
I paid just shy of £3.5k for it, there may be better modified examples for that price but I didn't want the loud exhaust etc.

That's a solid price for a low miles standard car, but they are rare now so I'd expect it. An RB equivalent would probably be £4-5k though!
I think you made a good buy mate.

So I haven't got any more pics yet as I'm on my home from the garage but I've replaced the grille and headlight washers and had the full cambelt, aux belt, dephaser done too at Simon's in Heckington. He's a top bloke who knows his Renault's inside out and told me whoever did the belts previously did a crap job and the car felt like it. It's made a world of difference now, either that or the new spark plugs have perked it up, haha.
So if anyone knows where I can get replacement stickers from/made for on top of the grille that'd be peachy.

Nice, same sentiment from me too, solid price for a solid car and glad to see a Renault spec refurbishment to standard .

I use auto finesse revive on my trim and it comes out really well but the upper front grille has been changed over already. Thanks though

So today I finally got round to changing my rear licence plate light and it's made such a difference, couldn't believe how much the old unit has yellowed. And hopefully next week I'll be getting the headlights restored then I don't know what to get done next......

Had some time away where not a lot has happened however my 15 year old standard exhaust gave up and needed a lot of putty to get through the MOT and the mounts etc weren't looking the best as the picture shows. Now I wasn't going to fork out for a new standard one so I went for the Scorpion RS192 as I wanted it as quiet as possible and I'm happy with the result. It sounds nice, and the new exhaust mounts help too. Also got the steering rack bushes changed as it was an advisory on the MOT and that's made a world of difference too.

How hard was the steering rack bushes to change?

So just a quick update, Billie's are now on but it makes the wheels look terrible [emoji23] can't afford to do anything with that right now though. I'll sort better pics out at some time. Think I've got it set at a nice height for now though.

Alignment has been done already, taking it back in 4 weeks just to check it over and make sure it's settled okay

Been using the Bilsteins for a couple of weeks now and they're great, so much more confidence going into corners.

Also, thanks to the help of @Ocsltd and his lift I managed to get my seats lowered. Was sceptical of the difference it would make but it's so much better, I'd recommend anyone with standard seats to do it. It now feels like I'm sat in the car, not on it!

How much hassle was it to do?

Not too bad, took me just under an hour. Didn't need to move anything out of the way to get to the nuts (other than dust caps on the outsides) and the inside just needs a screwdriver to actually remove them. The 4 nuts you need to do are 13mm and I had to use an extension piece to get to the inner ones.

  Clio 182
So, one of the issues with lowering the seats is that the passenger seat won't go backwards or forwards and the drivers requires an almighty push to move it. After a quick investigation I think it's because the runner is now being stopped from unlocking by the carpet and floor beneath, bugger, haha. But for the amount I need someone in the back I'm sure I can live with it!

This car now lovingly sold to me at family discount.
Not required on the road until next month so it's in the garage for a full once over with the DA.
I'll continue Harry's legacy to keep it close to OE but upgrade and refine some items when required

Glad it’s gone to a good home 😉

so a little update since I took the car from my brother (may as well keep his progress thread up).

I was furloughed from my work on the 2nd April and have spent a good few hours tinkering and tidying bits up that I wouldn't normally have had time for.

1st was a good machine polish

Then my wife (no) decided to smash the splitter on the front within 10 mins of her 1st drive.

This is where I got bored and started taking bits and pieces off to clean

I removed the front arches to clean behind and got over 1kg of mud and dirt out from behind them.

Then gave the arches a quick once over whilst the wheels were off

Remove the side strips and cleaned behind them

Removed the "clio" badge and replace with a new style Renaultsport badge

The carbon canister was making a funny sound on tick over so took it off

Finally fitted a decat pipe to compliment the rs192 cat back system (sensor hole yet to be plugged)

If i'm furloughed for much longer the steering wheel will be replaced and so will the seatbelts and head unit

  clio 200
That splitter is somewhere near £300 to replace nowadays, ouch!
Yep, 16yrs it's been on the car until my wife had it for 10 mins. I have ordered a fabia one but think I'll be able to repair the cup one

Thread update.

I had to use some holiday up from work before the financial tax year ended so I've just spend some time sorting the paint out on the car.

A good snow foam, wash, iron out and clay

Then into the garage for a full DA machining. It's had Menzera 400 cutting compound, Megs 205 polish, Poor Boys black hole and waxed with FK1000P

The intention was to ceramic coat after the machine polish but I couldn't get all the scratches out and wasn't confident enough to wet sand. Still chuffed with the results.

Next up is to satin black the lower grill and look at replacing or refurbing the wheels whilst trying to keep it as OE as possible

Just took it round the NC500. What an epic trip and it performed faultlessly. Everyone should do it
