bhp of 172

  CLIO

hi guys just a quik 1, ive been reading many threads on here , and alot of people r sayin that a standard 172 produces 165 bhp,,,if thats the case what does the 172 mean???.....cheers

A lot of the ones at the RR day at RE performance were putting out about 144bhp at the wheels which makes about 172 at the fly

My 172 is marketed as a 172 so as far as Im concerned I tell people its 172 and thats that. If Im one of the lucky ones who have 172 thats cool, If on the other hand Ive got 165 I couldnt care less. Im sure theres other manufacturers cars out there with slightly less than quoted, Cant see this being unique to Renault.

it is 172ps which is 169 bhp, and to the guys talking about "at the wheels" and "at the flywheel" figures - remember there isnt a constant percentage loss figure as it has to do with things like gearbox oil temp/flow rates etc too.

its the difference between bhp(SAE) and bhp(PS) they are talking about bhp(PS) but not actually identifying it as such.

Does anyone know the reason why euro standard bhp(din) or PS is fractionaly different to the american SAE version ? why make things confusing !
