Big end bearings

Anyone got any ideas how much it would cost to change these?

Think mine may have gone, garage cant be sure tho, so they are talkin bout stripping it down to find out.

Any help appreciated.

in your engine, you can never tell with the clio theres nocking from all over!

big ends... when you start your car from cold does it make a deep knocking noise for a few seconds? Also when warm jab the throttle to about 4500 rpm does the engine knock as the revs increase?

If the answer is yes then it sounds like your big ends may have worn out, they are not to bad to do take you a sunday to do them and you dont need to remove the crank to do them, I would recommend changing big ends and main bearings.

What type of price am i looking at getting a garage to do em?

The knocking starts at bout 2800 revs, i dont take it over that now.

It is a git to get the sump off of a 16v. I had the whole engine out and done the works on my engine in the end. It could be a write off as far as the engine is concerned. If you have scored your crank you will have to have the whole thing reground and then you are talking big money for a garge to do it. Better off just changing the lump if your internals are standard.

Cheers Its a low mile engine tho, so i really wouldnt have thought there is too much wrong.

milleage or thrashed abused valvers?

multitude of things, cold thrashing, and i mean before the starter has got going lol, dust/dirt particles, general wear and tear etc etc.
