big end gone - fixable

its not a clio but a 306 S16 so similar i suppose, once the big ends have gone and become audiable is there no chance of getting away with just popping the sump off and sliding new shells in there? is the crank/rods likley to be damaged?

You need to examine it, but if youre lucky you might be able to just re-shell it...

May need a cranke re-grind and oversize shells though, but its fixable!

drop the sump, undo the big end bearing caps, and inpsect the shells. if the engines done a a huge mileage, then jsut replace em with new ones. but it could be a another problems as to why the big ends went, mostly likely due to oil starvation or breakdown. either way, the evidence left on the big ends will tell u the cause
