bike racks

I know its been covered before but I cant find it. Is it best to go for roof mount or rear mount rack cos I dont want to scratch or damage the paint? Would the rear spoiler on a 182 stop me using a rear mount?
Cheers

I carry my bike on the roof using the renault roof rack and bike holder, I found my bike too long to carry on the back as it sticked out to much and the rear carriers can scratch the car (plus there isnt many that will fit the clio). The spoiler shouldnt be a problem, sometimes when I fully open the boot the spoiler just touches the back wheel of my bike (172 spoiler).

You get my reply on my bike club website's forum, zippyy? ;)

Don't bother with rear-mounting racks - I tried a couple for a few months but had problems with their stability since I fitted lowering springs... One bike was OK but carrying anything more and I got seriously concerned with how much the rack moved! Roofbars are just so much more secure, expecially if you're carring more than one bike.
