Binding front brake

  182, 1.9 GTI
With the last part of my trip home made with the radio off i was alarmed to hear a squeaking coming from one of my my front wheels. On closer inspection of the red hot wheel it was obvious that the off side front pads were binding with the disk. The pad had worn down to the metal of the caliper and had damaged the disk. I checked the other front brake to make sure the brake pad had not just naturally worn down and was relieved to see about 10mm of pad remaining.

I asumed that with this obvious fault to the brake system the repairs would be covered by the warranty. To my horror, ive been told today that the work will not be covered by the warranty. The Renault authorised dealer/Renault customer services dept have stated that the pads do jam due to brake dust and therefore this is not a design fault but a characteristic of the braking system. This is difficult to understand especially in view of the fact that it could have resulted in a seizure of the wheel. Im totally shocked by this statement. Has any one experienced this kind of fault before? I'd be very grateful for any feed back that anyone can offer?

Cheers, Matt. (disappointed renault owner!) :(

Thats a warently issue brakes shouldn't and they don't fail if they did its a poor design/manurfacture and so covered under the suitability of product act ie it has to be fit for purpose which in this case it isn't.

i would have said capiper siezed bet get a new 1
You have to do some real hard even the race teams don't break them to often. Its most likly the slider between the cliper and caliper holder which are stuck.

i had the same problem on a trip to Oban last year! the brakes were squealing at the front for about the last 75 miles.got them serviced at tyre spot (iirc) in Oban, cost 58 quid !(new pads, ect)
wen i got home and went to my usual(respected) garage they said this was a known problem (not a fault) with these cars.and to periodicaly take the wheel off and blow away all the brake dust with an airline(wearing a mask)........job done and sorted!!
had no bother since!!(ive only done 6,000 mile since then tho!!)
